Description of RealVNC Viewer: Remote Desktop

RealVNC Viewer remote desktop

RealVNC® Viewer turns your phone into a remote desktop, giving you instant access to your Mac, Windows and Linux computers from anywhere in the world. You can view your computer's desktop remotely, and control its mouse and keyboard as though you were sitting down in front of it.

Just visit realvnc.com and download RealVNC Connect remote access software to each computer you want to control. Then sign in to RealVNC Viewer on your device using your RealVNC account credentials. Your remote computers automatically appear; simply tap one to screen share.

Alternatively, you can connect directly to RealVNC Connect with an Enterprise subscription or VNC-compatible software from third parties by entering the remote computer's IP address. Note that you may need to configure firewalls and port forward routers.

RealVNC Connect password-protects each remote computer out-of-the-box (you may need to enter the same user name and password you use to log in to your computer). All sessions are then encrypted end-to-end.

During a session, your device's touch screen serves as a trackpad to give you precise control of the remote desktop. Drag your finger to move the remote mouse cursor and tap anywhere to left-click (other gestures such as right-click and scroll are explained in-app).

RealVNC are the original inventors of VNC remote access technology, and we're confident you'll love what RealVNC Viewer has to offer. If you're still not convinced, check out our reviews!

Had been using with TightVNC on Windows 10 for a year or two and suddenly it just stopped working. I'm sort of a layman when it comes to this stuff so it could be something I'm doing wrong. But as far as I know, everything is the same. I tried updating both to no avail. I'm very disappointed

A nice app, has almost all the features I may think of. Rated 2 stars just to bring your attention to the fact that the app needs buffer exchange support.

Solid and dependable. Easy to use and a lot better UI after a few sketchy updates. Awesome that I can have my team but also help my wife with bonjout on her Mac and also connect to older vnc servers on older unsupported computers, like my Windows XP and 7 machines.

Been using RealVNC for ages. Before the need for Real. Works amazing if you have a relatively good internet connection. It scales well when the connection is not stable or changes. Works very well on Starlink, almost like a monitor connected directly to the remote device.

Great, but has minor issues. Not sure if this is specific to my use case, but the F11 key is frequently stuck, resulting in an endless loop of going into full screen and back out, depending on which program I am using.

Flawless victory with VNC Viewer! The only thing additional I would find useful is file transfer as is available on the desktop version. This however has been a very stable application that I've used for years now and will continue to do so as it performs perfectly for what it is supposed to do.

The controls need more imaginative creative updates like avoiding pinning the controls at the top of the mobile screen where we all know fingers can't reach! There's also not a single option for cusomizing control placement, behavior, size, opacity!? Except one setting for 2-finger scroll which is counter-intuitive as phones were generally designed for one handed use...

A little rocky lately, but overall great. I have used this on many mobiles for many years. It let's me connect to my home computers while away from home, no fuss. Works perfectly on home/local network too. Recently the Devs meddled with the toolbar, upsetting many of us. Thankfully they either listened or intended the circular pin/unpin all along. A great addition. Either way, a couple of updates later, it works as good a ever. Even scaling the desktop so we can see the toolbars.

At first glance, the app looks very promising. However, when I started exploring it, I tried to use the virtual keyboard (Gboard) and discovered that it was miserably misbehaving. All the special characters are messed up. For example both the keys ; and : will generate ; character. In other words, there is no way to enter a : character. A lot of other symbols, like @, #, >, |, cannot be entered, which are crucial on the command line. Until this is fixed, the app is completely useless to me.

This one star will remain until the change that put the action menu into a bubble in the top left of the screen is reversed. Whoever came up with that should have their job terminated. You have effectively reduced or removed the screen real estate for most programs top left corner where, on windows, most of the menus are located. Additionally, the functionality of that bar is buggy as hell and cumbersome. What used to take one tap now takes two, increasing effort by literally 100%. Dumb.

Easy controls and trouble free connections. Only three stars because of difficulty in exporting the address book to another device. There is the option to have your 'team' synced across multiple devices but there is no apparent way to add computers from the address book to the team. Instead all computers must be manually added again to be synced. Couldn't be that hard to add an option to copy a computer from the Address Book to my team.

I'm extremely disappointed that this doesn't have the option to function as a touchscreen the way the iOS version does. Moving the tiny dot around is a pretty poor method of navigation, particularly in bright sunlight when it is very difficult to find the cursor.

Pluses: It doesn't arbitrarily decide your using it for work purposes and then locks you out like TeamViewer. Its easier to set up than a personal VNC. Cons: The app falls far short of the desktop version. Touch controls are not intuitive and the there is no ability to transfer files. Like TeamViewer, the only guarantee you have of privacy is what you've given up in their TOS. Remember that even if you use a VPN with this 3rd party VNC, your data is not anonymous unlike a personal VNC server.

The client just works! If I ever need to connect to my home computer I can rest assure that VNC has my back. The connections are always solid and quick! The best part about VNC is that its free to use for personal reasons and doesn't shove annoying reminders that it was a free session in your face like Teamviwer. Really enjoy VNC and would highly recommend it to anyone who needs to remotely connect to their PC(s)!

The app is simple to configure and mostly works. One set of issues has caused me to switch to another app. Due to the app, keyboard events for keys requiring a shift modifier are not sent properly from the client. I have tried multiple keyboards, but my vnc logs show the keypress is using an unknown keycode. The key is mapped properly if the shift modifier is set on the app. However, this makes many keys annoying to use, which are important to commands and programming, such as these $:_~| .

App has worked perfectly for me so far - with fairly extensive use. I haven't been able to figure out how to remote into more than one machine simultaneously, but I also haven't looked to hard either. Would 100% recommend this app to anyone who needs to connect to vnc servers. It is VERY rare for me to be 100% satisfied with an android app, but this may be an exception, great job Devs!

Good alternative to TeamViewer. It's quicker and has no connection limit. Works for me with no hassle on Windows, Android, and Linux. I was also pleasantly surprised to see that it connected to my Windows box over the network with no router configuration. (For that you need a free RealVNC account.)

This was a 5 star app, but the update is awful. The new floating toolbar is idiotic, it blocks the view of the top of the screen and you have to constantly hide and unhide if you want to toggle mouse and keyboard controls. And it no longer scrolls to the Windows Taskbar if you are zoomed it, you have to zoom out for the Taskbar. Are they planning on releasing a paid app that isn't frustrating to use? It's the only thing that makes sense.
