Description of Samsung Smart Switch Mobile

• If you are unable to download through the Google Play Store, please follow the instructions below.

▣ Smart Switch gives you the freedom to move your contacts, music, photos, calendar, text messages, device settings and more to your new Galaxy device. Plus, Smart Switch™ helps you find your favorite apps or suggest similar ones on Google Play™.

▣ Who can transfer?
• Android™ owners
- Wireless transfer: Android 4.0 or higher
- Wireless transfers from a compatible Android device to Galaxy device: Android 4.0 or higher (Note that non-Samsung devices with Android versions lower than 6.0 can only connect with Galaxy devices that support a mobile AP.)
- Wired transfer: Android 4.3 or higher, charger cable, and a USB connector

• iOS™ owners - use the option that’s best for you:
- Wired transfer from your iOS device to your Galaxy: iOS 5.0 or above, iOS device cable (lightning or 30 pin), and a USB connector
- Import from iCloud™: iOS 4.2.1 or higher and Apple ID
- PC/Mac transfer using iTunes™: Smart Switch PC/Mac software – Get started http://www.samsung.com/smartswitch

• Windows™ Mobile owners
- Wireless transfers: Windows OS 10
* Note: For more information and step-by-step directions, go to http://www.samsung.com/smartswitch

▣ What can be transferred?
- Contacts, calendar(Device content only), messages, photos, music (DRM free content only, Not supported for iCloud), videos (DRM free content only), call logs, memos, alarms, Wi-Fi, wallpapers, documents, app data (Galaxy devices only), home layouts (Galaxy devices only)
- You can send app data and home layouts by upgrading your Galaxy device to M OS (Galaxy S6 or higher).

▣ Which devices are supported?
• Galaxy: Recent Galaxy mobile devices and tablets (From Galaxy S2)
* Note: For Galaxy S2, old OS (GB/ICS) version can cause incompatibility. If your S2 does not work properly, please try after firmware update.

• Other Android devices:
- HTC, LG, Sony, Huawei, Lenovo, Motorola, PANTECH, Panasonic, Kyocera, NEC, SHARP, Fujitsu, Xiaomi, Vivo, OPPO, Coolpad(DazenF2), RIM(Priv), YotaPhone, ZTE(Nubia Z9), Gionee, LAVA, MyPhone(My28s), Cherry Mobile, Google(Pixel/Pixel2)

* Note: For reasons such as compatibility between devices, it may not be possible to install and use Smart Switch on certain devices.
1. To transfer data, both devices must have a minimum of 500 MB free space in their internal memory.
2. If you are using a wired connection, your device must support a 'Transferring media files (MTP)' USB option to allow content to be transferred.
3. If you have a non-Samsung device that constantly disconnects from the wireless network, go to Advanced Wi-Fi on your device, turn off the “Wi-Fi initialize” and “Disconnect low Wi-Fi signal” options, and try again.
(The options described above may not be available, depending on your device manufacturer and OS version.)

※ Application permissions
The following permissions are required for the app service.
[ Required permissions ]
. Phone: Used to confirm your phone number
. Call logs: Used to transfer call log data
. Contacts: Used to transfer contacts data
. Calendar: Used to transfer calendar data
. SMS: Used to transfer SMS data
. Storage: Used to save the files necessary for data transfer
. Microphone: Used for high-frequency audio when searching for Galaxy devices.
. Bluetooth: Used to search for nearby Galaxy devices using Bluetooth.
. Location: Used to connect to devices using Wi-Fi Direct, which makes your location available to nearby devices

If your system software version is lower than Android 6.0, please update the software to configure App permissions.
Previously allowed permissions can be reset on Apps menu in device settings after software update.

Awesome app. Have used this app numerous times as I tend to be very hard on phones & have had to get 3 new phones in less than a year. The only thing that was a disappointment was that I was unable to use the app on one of my phones as the screen was black & no way to get to Smart Switch app. I did try to connect/download onto my computer & then upload to my new phone but, unfortunately was unable to. Beyond that its been fantastic. We all know what a pain in the butt it is to get a new phone.

They really should have called this Samsung Dumb Switch, because there's nothing smart about it. It gets to a very consistent percentage partway through the 'transfer', then the new phone says it lost connection. But the best part is that even after losing connection, it keeps running the old phone at full throttle until it overheats, and the only way to stop it is to use the app manager to force stop the app.

Absolute and complete garbage. It disconnects every...single...time using the wireless option. If it even manages to connect in the first place that is. And the USB option doesn't even work! My phone doesn't even see a USB device connected. Smh...how this managed to get even a single star is beyond me.

Did a good job moving apps, files, the few photos and videos that weren't on an SD card from new to old Samsung. Didn't work for text messages (1.4 GB, 28,000). I could transfer messages, but Smart Switch crashed dozens of times while "organizing" messages. Supposed fixes didn’t work. I also found the lack of visibility into processes frustrating… no % complete, no report of what’s moved or not. Instead I used SMS Backup and Restore for text messages, no problem, that worked great.

I dont care what others think, this program os amazing, puts everything back where you had it. I just wish that there was a feature to do this remotely say when you are unable to use the screen but the rest of the phone functions just fine. Would love to see a screen mirror that you don't have to accept on the device before allowing it to work. Ty samsung and devs.

This app is ALMOST perfect. But recently they added a minimum if 20% of battery in order to do any transfer or backup. I understand the reason behind this but there should be a warning that can be bypassed. I tried transfering my data from an old device that does not charge past 3% but can still survive while plugged in. It's capable of a transfer but i cannot find a way because now the app does not let me.

This is one of the greatest apps ever invented. Thos app lets me switch over everything from one phone to another. When I upgraded my phone, I thought I was going to have to reinstall ALL my apps. NOPE!!! I just downloaded Smart Switch and in about 20 minutes, everything (apps, photos, documents, downloads, everything) was transfered to the new phone.

I love this thing! It saved my photos, music, apps, even my old homescreen layout. It used to take hours and quite a bit of effort to transfer all that, but now you can just leave this app running while you watch Netflix and it'll do everything for you. I can't recommend it enough

This app helps make the switch from one Samsung device to another way easy by transferring pretty much everything from you old phone to your new one. Including apps, images, contacts, txt messages and most settings. You will have to go over everything manually just to make sure, but it beats having to do it all yourself. Just wish it would list in detail what it could not port to the new device. 1 star off for that.

MOST of the photos in my texts did NOT transfer. Just a grey square with a "!" In the middle. I tried everything. I've tried 6 times and it still won't transfer all my MMS pictures! Only a handful transferred the first time. Seems ridiculous that Samsung can't get it right. After searching for a solution it seems it's a random glitch with random solutions that don't work. Come on Samsung! Fix it!

useless. Jams up, takes forever, difficulties connecting via wireless or cable. I would give it a -5 update: I've done that, transferring by files, and updated the app in both phones. Still useless. At this point, my next phone will not be another Samsung, even if it has been my choice for the last few years. This time has proven very disappointing.

For the most part, it brought almost everything over. Had to reinstall Amazon apps. I did not experience loss of data from my old phone or SD card. Everything was still intact. My rating is based on their permission settings and not carrying all of the apps over. For the life of me, I cannot understand why this app needs full rights to make calls. You are transferring data, not calling my contacts?! I gave permission to everything else but making calls. The app would not open and crashed until I adjusted the permissions and applied yes to all.

App does not work. It goes great until it is time to actually transfer the data and then it says you need to connect to WiFi to do so, when the app on both phones has already connected them together with WiFi direct according to the data displayed under settings - connections - WiFi - "..." Menu - WiFi direct. I'm trying to copy my old Samsung S9 to my new S9 using a Samsung official app and yet it can't handle it. Edit: logs emailed! Will update. I used this app in '21 successfully btw.

12-25-2020 --- Horrible!!!! The app will not install! After trying over a dozen times, and using the link to common fixes (which is BS)! I have had Samsung for about the last 10 years (whenever they did away with the blackberry), and I have never had any problems...until now! 🤬 UPDATE (12-28-2020): I tried what you suggested, and that also did not work. I got the same message. So apparently your app does not work on the new Samsung phones.

Amazing service!! All of my apps were installed, and the settings of each individual app were identical to my other phone! While Google was restoring my apps/contacts on Note 10, I discovered an app I'd bought years ago was no longer available in the Play Store. I searched for a compatible app while Smart Switch was running but didn't see one. Once Smart Switch finished, the app was installed on my Note 10!! I was even more thrilled when I opened it and saw everything had already been set up!!

Still very impressed. Backed up my previous phone to a new phone, followed the instructions, no issue. Be mindful that the USB cable does not move, else disconnects. Also, one phone must have USB Charging changed to "Data Transfer", else one or both phones will just shut off. After the transfer, give it some time. It took about ½hr after the transfer to be a fully functional clone.

If only zero stars was an option. Worthless and time consuming. Took hours and anything important was lost. Transferred most of my apps but all my history was lost, like starting from scratch. What a disaster. So much was lost or recovered by other means. You would think the maker of both my previous and current phone could do better. Stick with the cloud.

Requires VPN to be turned off, which is very suspicious. Also, the interface needs some work. It's too easy to accidentally transfer something you don't want to transfer by simply browsing. Even if you don't select anything, when you go back, it will automatically select everything. The only reason for 2 stars instead of 1 is that it transfers very quickly.
