Description of Dashlane - Password Manager

Dashlane is a leading password manager that’s as easy to use as it is secure. We help people and businesses protect their passwords, payments, and personal info and access that data anywhere they need it—all with best-in-class security.

WHY USE A PASSWORD MANAGER?
Password saving should only happen in your password vault. Dashlane’s intuitive app makes it easy to do just that, so you don’t have to remember your passwords. An encrypted vault is the most secure (and convenient) place to save logins:
Your vault syncs seamlessly across all your devices, so you’re all set anytime you need to access, generate, or securely share a password. And with Dashlane, you can organize your vault into personalized Collections to efficiently find and filter passwords.
Features like Autofill make it easy to populate your passwords and payment info across the web, and Dashlane’s Dark Web Monitoring keeps a close eye on the depths of the internet to alert you of anything suspicious.

WHAT SETS DASHLANE APART?
Trust & transparency: We use zero-knowledge architecture, so no one—not even Dashlane—can access your information. We’ve also made the Dashlane Android and iOS application code publicly available, so anyone can audit the code and understand how we build Dashlane. 18+ million customers and 20,000+ businesses trust Dashlane with over 2.5 billion credentials, and you can trust us with yours, too.
Total protection: Unlike some other password managers, we encrypt all your personal data, not just passwords, with the strongest encryption available.
Innovation: Although our roots are in password management, we’re actively ushering in a passwordless era with passkey support and passwordless login, and we’ll continue to stay on the cutting edge of the industry.

Great app and easy to use. Secure enough that it can be a hassle sometimes to login and get passwords, but that's what I wanted in a password manager - security and the extra steps (could also be a result of my separate VPN). With that said it does make the password process really easy, but make sure the password gets saved in Dashlane - it doesn't always prompt you when using it and that can result in it not being saved.

I gave it a chance because there were a few reviews that ranked it highly. I learned that I needed to have the app, browser extension, and the windows application downloaded and synced. I committed to the premium (annual only) so ~$60. It was terrible at recognizing apps vs browser/desktop so it would have duplicates. Constantly needed to reauthorize, poor sync. I tried to make it work because the price but it isn't worth it. You win. I recommend 1Pass personally.

This is a slick password manager! It looks great, and it works even better. The password autofill works great. It's very easy to figure out how to get around the app and how to add stuff. I know the color and the icons don't affect usability, per se, but they make the experience very pleasant. The premium subscription is pricey, but ease of use is something I value. I'm also impressed with the steps taken to make sure the accounts/vaults are secured and protected (even in the event of a breach).

It works best on Apple platforms. On Android, the integration with apps seems minimal. The browser seems to override key management at times (on icloud). it repeatedly asks for master password. I finally got it to ask for pin instead. overall, the Android experience is lacking compared to the Apple experience. Even adding logins and generating passwords is buggy. Having said that, it is probably more secure than other systems while being still relatively easy to use.

Usually people only leave reviews if a product or service is really good or bad. In this case, the services outstanding. It's one of those simple things in life that makes a huge difference in the long run. I get to have really complex and in turn really safe passwords without even having to remember any of them. That's mainly what I use it for, but they also offer a VPN and screening to see if any of your personal information has been compromised in a breach. Dashlane is absolutely worth it..

The program was great until they decided to go to a useless extension on a browser rather than an installable Windows application. If you used the windows application to set up certain things, you are stuck with them set the way that they were before they took away the desktop application with no way to change them. UPDATE: The issue was a category made for my dead mother-in-law on your desktop version. When you went to your app version. You can't update or change categories anymore.

The password manager is great and the VPN is terrible. If you don't utilize the VPN, then this will be a great password manager for you. However, the VPN functionality is terrible. I've set up rules for the VPN to automatically connect, and while it will start up when it is supposed to sometimes, it's not all the time like the rule states. And it disconnects continuously. I just want to be able to have it turn on automatically and not worry if it's on or not.

I had high hopes that Dashlane would work seamlessly between my computer and my phone. It ended up being extremely frustrating. Only occasionally got the password (that it had chosen) for a particular site correct. It seemed like every time I wanted to sign into a site, it got the password wrong. I had to open the app and enter my super long main password... then choose one of the many versions of the site that it stores and try each stored password, one-by-one. Too much work.

The free version quickly renders itself useless. Limited number of passwords on local storage, really? Some people don't have money to blow on things that aren't entirely necessary. Those people should still be taken care of for the sake of reputation and mass adoption, right? Not according to Dashlane apparently. It's like they forgot what the purpose of the app is. Secure. Passwords. Keep all the other features locked behind a paywall, that's fine, just let me have more passwords.

Please consider a different password manager. I had a very good first impression of Dashlane. It was able to fill out my passwords without me having to do much work. I figured, $60 for peace of mind for the next year will be worth it, so I bought the app. That's when the issues started. For one, I cannot tell you how many times I've had to manually start the Dashlane app on my Mac. I have the Firefox extension installed and it will not start on its own. Pressing the extension icon does nothing. I have to start the desktop app and wait a good 3 minutes before I can use the browser extension. In that time frame, every password I must enter, I have to look up in Dashlane, copy, and paste manually. It's a waste of time. Dashlane syncs your passwords, but not automatically. Every single time I have added or changed a password, I have had to sync at least twice: once on the device added, once on the device(s) that should receive the password. This should be automatic, hello! It's almost 2020 and I have to manually sync? Third, I've had numerous experiences where I've lost generated passwords. Now Dashlane *claims* to save all of your passwords in a Password History section. Good news, that password section exists. Bad news, it's very inconsistent. I can generate 5 passwords, and one of a few things can happen: * Dashlane saves none of the passwords * Dashlane saves 1 of the passwords * Dashlane saves all 5 passwords Usually it's the first option, which renders the password history tool pretty much useless. My last complaint is one that the user can fix actually, but is incredibly annoying before fixing. Sometimes, I like to log out of websites. But Dashlane sure doesn't. It'll log me right back in thanks to the autofill function. And yes, it presses the login button for you. I don't find this very helpful other than it saves me a click, but logging out manually needs to be taken into account. After this years subscription is over I plan on switching to a better platform. If you haven't subscribed, please don't. If you have, I'm sorry for your loss.

Had the free version. Worked great for a couple of months. Then my passwords started disappearing. I had to reenter them numerous times. I kept being asked to enter master password when I had fingerprint set up. Had to start copy/pasting passwords into websites because auto fill stopped working. Then I got a new phone. Only to find that none of my info would transfer unless I upgraded to the paid version. I refuse to pay anyone a ransom. Good riddance.

Huge potential, for sure. It's certainly got incredible security features and I love the unique features like the proximity location feature and as long as your phone doesn't malfunction while you unlock your screen, seems to function perfectly. I've finally gotten around to putting forth the effort to learn how to use the app and i love the cross-compatibility between different platforms. Finally something that is worth buying for Apple and Android product hybrid users like myself.

Fingerprint authentication no longer works in the standalone web based app on desktop browsers. I have decided to stay with the desktop version but every time I restart the browser I need to repeatedly turn off the standalone web based app (my preference is not saved). Otherwise I need to use my dashlane password to authenticate - not my fingerprint. This is a step backwards. According to the website it doesn't look like this is going to be fixed. Thankfully my subscription ends shortly. EDIT 01.22.2021: After a little more time, I find this even more annoying than just the loss of the fingerprint authentication. Since the update, the advertisement for the web extension keeps popping up every time I start the browser, the extension never properly saves the settings, so I need to constantly redo them just to keep the desktop app working with autofill. I don't know if they did this deliberately, but their support seems completely useless and doesn't even address the issue.

I really want to give this a better review than "Middle of the Road" but here we are. I got it for it's dark web monitoring and its ability to change passwords without you having to go in and do it yourself. Which it only did for 2 od my 190 passwords. Well, I might be leaving it soon. It does a great job sometimes. A lot of the time it just never shows up when you need it to be there to log into places you have saved through the program. Other times its overzealous.

I really want to love this app. It has a gorgeous and intuitive interface, the import process is flawless, and the security it provides is second to none. The major problem is with the auto fill functionally. I have a Samsung S20 Ultra running Android 11. Neither the Android Auto Fill nor the Keyboard Auto fill works with Samsung Browser (a must for me), Chrome, or Edge. In fact, the only password manager that works without issue is 1Password, sadly.

I am very favorably impressed with this app's performance, features, and the degree to which it is user app's. One of its standout features, IMO, is its ability to sync with my Windows desktop and laptop. Along with that aspect, I was able to import passwords from my PC and from Google password manager. I do wish this app could, after analyzing weaknesses in your passwords, have the ability to reset passwords in BULK! Trying to redo each one individually takes TOO LONG!!

Awesome app. It's not very complicated and just works. It is cool to have a app like this with a really good free version. Edit: down to 2 stars because it's good when it works, but it doesn't. Just gives an error when logging in on a new device with our without premium Edit 2: still the same error months later saying unexpected error occurred when trying to log in on any PC device.

love the app in principle, but it is clunky at times. at random times it asks for the password. i made a rediculous password so it is impossible to figure out, but i also don't remember it. so it becomes a chore everytime it randomly asks for password. Pricing for premium is hard to swallow, I would gladly pay a one time fee. There needs to be an intermediate step between free and monthly fees.
