Description of ConnectBot

ConnectBot is a powerful open-source Secure Shell (SSH) client. It can manage simultaneous SSH sessions, create secure tunnels, and copy/paste between other applications.

This client allows you to connect to Secure Shell servers that typically run on UNIX-based servers.

the term buffer is bananas. trying to select text scrolls the buffer to random places, selects to kingdom-come anywere else except the touched area, scrolling the buffer by hand is a nightmare. otherwise... better than other ssh terminals, can't complain much.

Seems to work really well. Was pleasantly surprised by port forwarding option that allowed me to connect to my router using my mobile web browser (over 2000km away when i realised I had failed to open the openvpn port on router!!!! Saved my bacon!)

The terminal scrolling is the worst I've seen. Sometimes instead of scrolling it selects text. Increase the time required to hold for text selection and use the default scrolling.

Works great when connected. Please add a disconnect all widget. I use the widget to connect but if there was a previous connection that was disconnected it just opens that window and does not connect agsin. You have to first be disconnected.

App is great! Except if you use a cli text editor and scroll too far down, it crashes the app! Tested using nano, crashes around 50 or so lines, consistently. Will rate 5 once fixed!

Gets the job done, but port forwarding is really laggy, even with compression. This is a connectbot issue since I don't experience this when establishing a local tunnel with other applications to the same server. Lag is observed when using VNC over SSH.

ConnectBot is great. It allows you to do remote connections with ssh or telnet or do a local connection to access your Android systems shell. Although I don't use it much anymore because Termux now exists, if for some reason you need to connect to your local device to access the Android commands, ConnectBot is still very useful. It's also on Fdroid, so you might want to get it there.

Overall, really great and functional app. Certificate based authentication works just fine, although there's no way to label or organize keys, so I have to remember which one in sequence is for which account. Otherwise flawless.

This app worked perfectly to connect to a Raspberry Pi. I entered the user@ip-address, took the defaults, and it connected. With this app I use either my Samsung Galaxy 10 or my Kindle 7" as a monitor with a simple Bluetooth keyboard. It makes a great portable development tool for the RPi.

It works well, but the shell does not look good and has a few bugs. Sometimes, the characters appear distorted and broken. Also, there is no option to change the font size. The display size setting does not work well.

I used this app quite successfully long n the past to connect security to various systems I have deployed over the years and was quite pleased with how usable it was on s smartphone. However, I've long since hardened my systems to use only the strongest ciphers with no known weakness or even suspicions of such. Well I just fired up ConnectBot and see that it can't connect to my hosts. Investigation from the server side exposes a critical shortcoming in this app - it's using key exchange method using the SHA1 cipher which is no longer considered secure for use. As the only critical function of an SSH based app is that it's secure, this all should NOT be used because it doesn't fulfill that minimum condition. There's no point in continuing to update the interface if it's exposing user encryption keys. I emphatically recommend avoiding this app until this gaping flaw is resolved

A competent enough ssh client, but the key overlay that provides esc, ctrl, arrows etc when you tap the console area obscures the command you're typing if you're at the last line of the terminal (which is most of the time in my experience). Deeply frustrating.

An essential app, one of the first installed on any new device. Manage a bunch of Pi's and a PC with ConnectBot. Used it for years and can't see me ever changing. I just wish it could trigger replacing the emoji symbol with the / on Gboard like browsers do, but that's being picky.

I've used this app for years. It needs updating with a few baseline features. There needs to be a way to export and import connect settings. It also needs to have a way to duplicate connect settings.

Used to be a great app but since the update you can no longer swipe right or left to switch channels. The paste key is is gone. The window does not resize when I open the keyboard, I have to manually scroll it up or down.

The app is not bad but there is an annoying bug. In nano when moving arrows left and right sometimes the text under cursor changes. If in bash you move left and right, change the command, and then press enter, it may glue words omitting a space unless you go to the far right end of the line first before pressing enter.

No way to save a password, a feature which is sorely missed and which has been requested by users for over a decade. Switched to JuiceSSH because even setting up a pubkey did not work, the randomness finger generation disappeared halfway through for some reason, so I couldn't even do that without unnecessary hassle. Unfortunate for an otherwise great app.

A quick look and I was impressed! But the inability to operate in landscape/wide mode means most lines are wrapped, and I can't live with that. So without further assessment, I must uninstall and keep looking.
