Trying to download more than a few books at the same time makes the app unusably slow with no easy way to cancel the download because it's so slow. It tries to download them all at the same. It should download them sequentially, it would take the same amount of time and stop the app being unusable, also it doesn't appear to download in the background. Also currently you have to select books to download individually which is really time consuming. Needs a sync to library button or something.

Needs an option to slow down the reader on "read aloud". Also: on my Samsung phone, the voice is harsh and metallic and too fast. On my LG phone the voice is pleasant and the speed is comfortable. So well done on the LG version. If course, if it's the same version for both, then it's my phone.

It was going great reading epub from websites, but now if I download a new book it can't upload or open. I've updated the app and it doesn't work. I can't read new books now. EDIT 9/29 They fixed the issue as the developer said and it's works fine. Fast response to the issues. That's awesome, thank you!

I love Google books I started reading a whole new genre of books because of their free books. Now I have several new favorite authors. I also found some good books I can use for my research. The only thing that would make it perfect is if they could do the rent or borrow the books thing like Amazon. Because it always seems like the free books are the first one in a strand of books which I can't really afford right now.

I prefer to read my books in actual paperback form, but this app makes it very convenient when carrying a book might not be. You can change the font style and size, and you can change the settings to make reading on your phone easier on your eyes. Not to mention, most of the books are reasonably priced and there are plenty of free books to choose from as well. Overall great app.

Decent audiobook selection, terrible app. As a solely audiobook listener, You are likely to find most titles available within this app. However, using the app to learn information about books you've purchased, such a total length time, is abhorrent. Clicking a title merely starts the book and only shows chapter lengths. Going to the shop page once you've bought the book isn't much better. There is the beginning of a description but you cannot tap to read the full entry once purchased.

Another dreadful update. Why is it that all the books are now labeled as Google Book?! No titles, no covers, nothing but the blue play icon. Ugh! This keeps happening! It'll update & show tittles & covers than switch to the blue icon. Can we please be consistent & keep the labels the way authors designed them and not the generic icon. This makes it difficult to read in general because now you have no idea what any of the books are! Originally I loved the app when I first uploaded it.

I am ultimately THRILLED that the Google Playstore has its own Audio & eBook app!! I was more than upset about Audible being a pay app...yes, I work & have a way to pay...but money is super tight - and I read like crazy...I wouldn't be able to to afford that! Lol. My ONLY issue/prob with this app (Google Play Books...) is the fact that the voice is WAY TOO computer-ish (doesn't stop when there's a period, no feeling, etc.). Otherwise it would be perfect!

It's been a great app until recently all my books suddenly uninstalled themselves and I can re-download them or even read them. Every time a attempt to read them it says that the issue requires help from the support team. The issue still persists. The support team only issued a temporary fix. I've tried contacting Google but I have not received a response.

One of the best reader apps , but i would like to see a few features, like when you are reading fast the words to get highlighted at a chosen speed , just the lone word appear on the screen and chenge to the next one at 200 wpm or something, or add a block botton for the screen , some readers like to use their fingers when reading and if they do that , it will change the page.

I normally love this and find it works well for my needs but 9/10 times it does not upload my ebook files when I open them with playbook from my files app. This is extremely annoying and I WISH there was a way to access and transfer files to and from playbook directly, AND an option IN APP to upload from folders/files that would IMMEDIATELY put the ebook in my library. Also the library takes forever to load while online and there is no reason it should take this long.

This is an excellent App for reading and has the option for Audio if you like to listen. Google Books has an excellent selection in a broad range covering great fiction and nonfiction. I really enjoy the many free books available and the ease they are made available. As for the App, it keeps your place when you stop reading and books you are currently on move to a convenient location. It doesn't have the selection in the less popular categories that Kindle has but it certainly excellent.

2 since it has great features and all, beautiful app. The downside is that it wants to always download the book (like audible book) and auto downloads to fast before you can try to set the SD card as the storage location. The app, in the inside needs a lot of work to be done with. I hope in the future the developers will consider to work on the storage side in the app. Have a very great great day. - Jayme Brown

you can read and buy books. not much more to say. I would prefer an endless scroll option rather than just swipe (I've checked its not an option despite what it might lead you to believe) but you get used to it anyway. you can however change fonts, text size, and background colours for night time reading. all in all, simple and pretty effective.

Wish you could change the reading voice in the settings. There seems to be only one voice available and it's not horrible but I would like different options, especially since the Google speech synthesis app has 7 different options. I also make a lot of highlights and notes in my books and I've noticed sometimes they disappear when I switch devices

Needs an option for black text on the beige page! I select the beige page option because it's easiest on the eyes as far as harsh blue light, and also happens to look like a paperback book. However, the brown text does not contrast enough with the beige background, so my eyes still strain, and most real paperback books still use BLACK print. I end up switching to the black background, but then the text is pure white. There's a reason most video players offer a yellow text subtitle option!

An excellent app with recently considerably improved TTS capability. A massive further improvement would be to make it easier to follow the text while listening to the Voice. At the moment this is difficult because the page will automatically turn only at the end of a sentence. And it is not possible to turn the page manually without disrupting the Voice reading.

I use it constantly. I like using the read aloud option as I am often too busy to sit and read. Also having it read in the background it helps to focus my thoughts when I am trying to sleep. While it can be frusterating listening to the few words it misprounouces, swapping "I" for 1 intermitantly, and things like "pine-a-cone" instead of pinecone or "windauzle" for windosill I also find it amusing.
