The Ads are intrusive & annoying, plus to remove the Ads you have to pay $1,99 USD a year, which I find to be ridiculous. Talk about GREEDY!!! LOL! There are only 3 word games & the light mode is the only unlocked mode! Plus, this App takes up a lot of space on my phone! There are a lot of other dictionaries & thesaurus's that are free & you don't need internet access to use them! I don't recommend this App, unless you want to watch a lot of intrusive Ads, & waste space & money!!!

I liked this app until I got an ad to sign up for Facebook. I already have one. I tried hitting the back key, which did nothing, just made crackling sounds when the screen was touched. Then I tried using my phones back button. Same thing. I could not get past that screen. I uninstalled the app. Installed a different dictionary app instead.

Not as good as it used to be. You used to simply tap on the microphone icon, speak the word, and the word would pop up, correctly spelled along with it's definition. No more !!! Sad I thought it was something I did wrong, but in speaking to several other people, they experienced the same reductions in functionality.

I have a suggestion. Make the app significantly larger by allowing a string of searches. If im on a page and see a word in my definition that i dont know, i can use the feature of instantly seeing the definition by tapping the word. But i need to return to the previous word quickly to reference the second definition to the first. Otherwise im very satisfied.

the best dictionary app there is. I've had it on the front screen of my phone(s) for years. one can save words, see recent lookups, access the thesaurus, (and save words from there as well), and read the information provided about the word of the day. I do wish more articles were available in the app, but I'm fine using the website for those, (exceptional writing, btw).

I upgrade every year to get ad free dictionary. I use this product constantly. Every year after renewing my $ subscription I go through the same silly gyrations. I pay and renew. You fail to recognize my login. My only choice is to renew again. You say I already renewed. I'm stuck with ads. Can you please sort this? Soon? So how many times a year do I double or triple renew until you get it right? Update - uninstalled. Waited several months. Reinstalled. Fixed. Thank you.

The app often starts searching after only 3 letters of a word are typed. For example, when searching "example" after typing in the first 3 letters, exa, the app will search for that. You then have to retype the word you are looking for. Not a huge deal, but it's quicker to just Google the word. Additionally, the word of the day is almost always some common word that everyone knows. It does not provide any incentive to use the app. The app is also not comprehensive so it makes me atrabilious.

When I press the speaker icon to hear the word being pronounced nothing happens. I have to tap it several times before it eventually works. Maybe it needs time to "warm up" 05/08/22 Now when I press the button to hear the spoken word I get the last part of the word. The first syllable is not heard. I have to hit it 3-4 times before I hear the full word. Sent an email. Let's see if I hear back. Otherwise, I'll just uninstall and find another dictionary.

12/21/2021 Negative Update: When I try to press the sound button for pronunciation there's about a 25 second delay in sound. This has never happened. It must have occurred after the most recent update ("self-update"). Definitely 2/5 stars until they fix the lag. 06-2020 My go-to dictionary when using my phone. Not only do I use it to search definitions but it's very valuable when becoming familiar with proper pronunciation. 4/5 stars (-1 star due to ads, but still useful).

The original page layout was great. On the top of the page, it displayed easy to understand meaning, so that you don't have go down to the full definition. Recently, they removed that top section of concise text for commonly used meaning. Instead, now every page displays a large-font title "Collegiate Definition" - what a waste of precious mobile real-estate. [New] By doing further research, it turns out that these concise text are from learner's dictionary which they now separately charge.

I've liked this app for a long time, but now it's misbehaving. 1: If I search for "who", and even after selecting "who" from the list, it shows me the results for "whom". 2: It has now decided it is not to be shut down. The usual X has disappeared from the title bar, and after using the square icon to show all apps, clicking the grayed-out X has no effect. Clicking 'Clear All' removes all other apps but not this one. This is a violation of Android standards and I shall be reporting it.

The app once let you speak into the microphone and converted to text for word meaning. No longer it does this. They actually reduce features. I never would believe a reputable company like Webster would resort to what looks like smoke and mirrors. I took out a subscription thinking that the this feature was in the paid version but it was not only a typical feature reduction.

I'm taking off a star because I just searched something in the app, it said "word not found," and then when I asked Google to define it, the top result was the Merriam-Webster site! How many terms are on the website and not the app?! Also, it's disappointing that you can't sort your saved words into folders. I wish the word games had more variety because everything starts to repeat after a few minutes of playing, especially with the "name that thing" game.

by the new version series, tap to open feature has been so sensitive on touch and when scrolling the screen, irrelevant words open up by themselves, all the time. it really ruins my nerves and doesn't let me use it. I reported this issue long ago, but nothing and each time I have to uninstall the app; when I see it's the same way after each new update and forget using it. you just change its looks all the time but don't fix bugs; and the app looks gets worse after you change it either! thanks.

Edited review: someone finally listened and my account issue was corrected. The only reason there is one less star is that no one contacted me to tell me it was fixed. Thank you for fixing the issue! I paid my annual renewal fee on December 31st 2020, for no ads, yet ads appear on the app! I've tried contacting the developer to find out why or to get a refund to no avail. It is theft to take the fee and not deliver the service. I would like a refund or the correct service, please!

The app is great. MW continues to stand as one of the best, most trusted English dictionaries and thesauruses out there. However, don't bother subscribing to the ad-free version. It last about a day, and then the siege is on: a salvo of banner ads and pop-ups interrupt the experience. Disappointing.

I liked the app and used it frequently but had to uninstall it recently because the ads that popped up would take over the ENTIRE screen with no option to close out. Closing and reopening the app would just bring me back to the same ad screen again. Very frustrating as it became impossible to use the app whenever I needed to look something up. I understand the necessity of having ads in free apps, but this is ridiculous. Please fix this problem, otherwise the app is useless.

I downloaded the top few dictionary apps, turned off all wifi/data and launched them all for the first time. This one works offline (even the games; however, the pronunciation audio clips require an online connection), links to synonymous and antonymous words work effortlessly, and the app doesn't require you to register to use it (*ahem oxford*). Overall, I'd say this one is currently miles better than the rest. I will say, the ads popping up every now and then are a bit of a nuisance though.
