The library of content is nice, but the app itself is hot garbage, easily the worst streaming app of them all. It cannot remember where I leave off in any show. Some shows play in English, my default, just fine and other shows set the language to Spanish or turn on subtitles and it has to be changed manually EVERY episode. The back 10 seconds button has a 50% chance to restart the episode instead. They cannot even catch up to where Netflix or Hulu were a decade ago, and should be ashamed.

Way way, buggy... bring back the old version! Having all the networks together is just too much. Sure you can go thru it and pick just HBO or whatever, but it's a pain. Oh, and the BIGGEST issue is that whenever I pause a show (movie or TV), it goes back to the beginning when you hit play. It's VERY frustrating. This happens on my Roku more than on my Android app. If I didn't get this subscription as part of my internet plan I definitely wouldn't pay for it. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!

Ever since they transitioned over to Max from HBO Max it's been terrible. I know that most companies go through that phase but they had a perfectly good app that went through this "bug" phase. The TV/Roku app is even worse. When you pause and then play again it starts at the beginning, the interface moves like a snail when making selections and sometimes it just exits out of Max. I hope they fix this soon.

This app was completely unnecessary, just like the name change, which makes no sense. The old app was infinitely better. The new UI is terrible, things keep disappearing from my watchlist, and now it says something about Plan Change Unavailable and won't actually load the app, so it's useless. The new PS4 app at least still works, even though it's also worse than the previous app. I was watching something on there earlier; when I went to switch to watching on the phone, this app wouldn't work.

Audio and video get out of sync all the time. Requires multiple rewind/pause cycles to manually get them back in sync. Extremely laggy interface that seems to need to communicate with the server just to move the cursor. Frequently locks up or hangs and needs to have all the data deleted to restart. To summarize, this is the kind of app that middle schoolers build because they have zero experience with network, data integrity, UI or scale.

Huge issue with the media volume for the MAX app with the last update. The volume randomly lowers on its own even when turned to the maximum!! None of my other media apps have this issue. Please fix this bug, for I see others having similar issues in the reviews recently, as well. UPDATE: Now in the middle of a show episode it will literally jump back to an episode I've already watched!

The phone app that I primarily use does not work well at all. For example, I'm watching Game of Thrones, and I keep getting the repeated error of "something went wrong." I always end up having to reboot my phone to get it to work, but be rest assured, it's temporary. I might be able to watch 3 episodes without error at best. Then, there is an error in which it will automatically skip to the next episode before the one I'm on is finished, usually in the last 10 minutes or so. Have paid for junk.

This app is garbage when it comes to accessibility, especially compared to its predecessor. There's no option in settings to enable subtitles as a default. Accessibility features should be accessible, yet I have to enable subtitles every time I want to watch something. There is also no way to see details of a show in my "continue watching" queue, meaning that if I fall asleep watching I have to actually search up the show. This app is not user-friendly AT ALL for disabled people.

It does not have a convenient ui at all. It's difficult to navigate, it lags, you hit an episode you want, and if you ended it the last time you watched it just goes right to the end and you can't get back to the beginning quick enough to start the episode over. You have to hit so many buttons just to get to an episode. Lol, come on...

I've spent more time creating new passwords than watching anything. Also something doesn't look right error message and deleting app and reinstalling. I've got a full page of passwords that were accepted but once I hit submit. Something doesn't look right and than back to square one. Mind you I've had this app 24 hours. I've given up Going to YouTube or Netflix. Stay away from this app. Free or included not always the bargain you'd expect.

The app needs serious improvements. I hate that when I press back within the app or on my phone it completely navigates to the app home screen. This means you cannot browse new things and add them to your list within the app. Well, unless you're willing to restart the search each time. The app is also very cluttered. It does work though and I've never experienced any errors. It's just difficult to use.

The app ran smoothly for the first maybe month and a half of having it, and all of a sudden, whenever I want to watch television, it causes my phone to completely freeze, where it will start playing the sound of the episode but it's stuck on the loading screen and my sound/power buttons do nothing, and then my phone takes like 5 minutes to completely restart, and it's really frustrating. I did write this on the Max website too. EDIT (as of 10/2/23): These issues have been seemingly fixed!

I don't understand why a company would purposely make an app that strives to make it as difficult and as frustrating as possible to enjoy it. From constant crashes, bad quality for the first minute of most content, chromecast streaming issues, persistent errors, difficulties saving show progress, rough navigation/UI, etc. It's a never ending list. Just an utter nightmare to use.

I like the selection of programming but the app has issues. It stopped keeping track of what episodes I've seen. When casting the app to my tv, episodes will auto play even though I have the setting turned off, and also when casting it will freeze when a show is playing anything after the episode ends. Like a preview, or trailer, or behind the scenes extras. It's very annoying.

There are loads of really good movies and shows on here. The move from the HBO app to this one, Max, was seemless. But I am really upset with just how often this app glitches. I constantly check my internet connection and that I don't have other apps running in the background on my phone while I'm watching when this happens. But it's the only app that still freezes completely or skips constantly while I'm trying to watch anything. 😧 It's unfortunate because it would be the perfect app.

Great content, horrible app functionality. While casting from my phone if I ever hit the playback/fast forward 10 secs buttons in the middle of a show, it'll go back to the last point it remembers me being at instead of where I currently am. It makes no sense. I'm halfway through a show, want to go back 10 secs and end up at the very beginning of the show, losing my place completely and have to find it manually. There's much more wrong but this is my main issue. Please get a better app team!!!!

As of recently there is no way to turn off subtitles from automatically playing. It goes on after every show or episode I'm watching. Also, the fast forward does not work. Just goes back to starting place. Is this trying to get me to upgrade plans? Because the ads are incredibly unbearable, it's the same 3-4 ads that i swear were made to annoy the hell out of people. With these issues and another price increase, I'm gonna cancel the bundle.

The audio is overly compressed. Have a setting in this app to allow users the option to have it compressed or to allow its full dynamic range. Other movie apps have this option. There is nothing worse than to be immersed in the picture only to have the audio sound artificial. This gives a fake sound that greatly takes away from the experience. I want great sound quality. If that means dropping your service and renting movies, then that's what I will do.
