Description of WiFi Analyzer (open-source)

Optimize your WiFi network using WiFi Analyzer (open-source) by examining surrounding WiFi networks, measuring their signal strength as well as identifying crowded channels.

Users' privacy and security is a huge concern these days and WiFi Analyzer (open-source) is designed to use as few permissions as possible. It asks for just enough to perform the analysis. Plus, it is all open source so nothing is hidden! Most notably, this application does not require access to internet, so you can be sure it does not send any personal/device information to any other source and it does not receive any information from other sources.

WiFi Analyzer is under active development by volunteers.
WiFi Analyzer is free, has no-ads and does not collect any personal information.
WiFi Analyzer is not a WiFi password cracking or phishing tool.

Features:
- Identify nearby Access Points
- Graph channels signal strength
- Graph Access Point signal strength over time
- Analyze WiFi networks to rate channels
- HT/VHT Detection - 40/80/160MHz (Requires Android OS 6+)
- 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz WiFi bands (Requires hardware support)
- Access Point view complete or compact
- Estimated Distance to the Access Points
- Export access points details
- Dark, Light and System theme available
- Pause/Resume scanning
- Available filters: WiFi band, Signal strength, Security and SSID
- Vendor/OUI Database Lookup
- The application has too many features to mention them all

Notes:
- Android 9 introduced Wi-Fi scan throttling. Android 10 has a new developer option to toggle the throttling off under (Settings > Developer Options > Networking > Wi-Fi scan throttling).
- Android 9.0+ requires location permission and location services to perform a WiFi scan.

Seems to be broken completely with Android 14, sadly. It doesn't do anything at all now, even with scan throttling disabled.

My issue with wireless interference was RESOLVED by using this app!! Had been dealing for a while with tablet, phone, laptop intermittently losing internet connection due to a hidden SSID sometimes appearing on the same channel despite channel changes (using a different analyzer), and WOW, all this time, it was my years-old roku stick (and not my neighbor lol) and which was clearly identified by this app! Many thanks!!

Literal waste of time. Showed initial state of WiFi when first run, then NEVER changed, causing me to spend several minutes troubleshooting the AP thinking it wasn't working right, when in fact this app was showing static info the entire time. Tried other apps which all worked fine, so I'll stick with those and be done with this garbage. Also, this is with the latest version and WiFi scan throttling disabled.

It's a great app, loce that it's open-source and I want to support it. However, my router 2.4ghz and 5ghz networks are hidden, so the app reads each SSID twice, once as a hidden network and once as the actual SSID which ruins the channel ratings and that defeats the whole purpose. Hope it's fixed soon. Will give 5 stars once this is sorted.

Keep prompting and asking for permissions for the location service and the turning WiFi on/off repeatly. For location access it is understandable because of the android 9 update, but the turning WiFi on/off prompt, neither allowing nor prohibiting it can stop it from spamming the user. Besides, when there are many WiFi, the channel graph will be filled with a long list of WiFi, blocking left side of the graph and making it almost unusable; A bad UI design. And no real-time monitoring, so ya.

Not updating signal strength. Go get an app called wifiman by Ubiquiti Networks instead. It is the best tool I've used. Great interface in its simplicity while relaying all the details needed. Thanks for the reply from WiFi analyzer. Despite changing the developer setting, I cannot get the app to update signal strength on either a Pixel 1 or a OnePlus 7T which are both on Android 10.

This app was amazing but it no longer works with the latest Android software OS. I noticed the issue was brought up in the FAQ 2 years ago with older versions. Uninstalled the app since it is useless now. I would have hope that it would be updated to support newer versions of Android but since this issue is 2 years old I am giving up on the app.

MASSIVE help in finding and setting up a WiFi signal booster. I knew exact dignal strengths for different locations and am using the best position to link with wifi cameras. An excellent app. Thank you. After doing an excellent job, it was necessary to uninstall the app because it caused my phone to get very hot and the battery life to rapidly decrease. Normal behaviour then resumed. Still an excellent, very useful app but my Motorola Edge 20 Lite did not like it running in the background.

Open source. No ads. No internet connection required. As expected, very simple features

This app is great, does what I need 95% of the time. Its free and safe and ad-free. Folks whining about nitpick things below do not understand the importance of those three attributes. Free, safe, and no ads. Plus I keep finding great features like clicking down through a stack of stations on the same channel. Support open source folks, because it's good for you.

Helped me identify a faulty networking setup. Some nice, detailed information, displayed in a way that's easy to understand and assess. Well-made; no ads; no BS; does everything it needs to. Wish the Play Store search bar would promote good apps like this rather than reams of adware.

4.5 stars... open source, no ads or intrusion. not *brilliant* visually. some colours clash and don't exactly leap off the screen. everything works as expected but with one small thing: if you have saved creds or are connected to a hidden ssid - it shows up twice in the access point mac page, once as hidden, once with the discovered name. this maybe an android limitation. i am picking. this is *very* good regardless

Amazing. This app look better visually, really meet my expectations. Bonus no ads at all. Thank you!

Great features rendered almost useless by Google restrictions. Updated just now and someone has added an hourglass that's infinitely worse than wondering why it wasn't refreshing. Guys, as a fellow software dev for over 30 years please believe me when I say a blank screen and a roundy roundy isn't an improvement :( Is it saying my WiFi connection dropped? Or that I have to wait til it stops before I'm allowed to rescan? Or..? Please SAY what's wrong. Great apart from that and Google. Thanks!

I use this app in conjunction with Net Analyzer which has 3 things work better. 1) It is visually much better. 2) It separates 2.4GHz and 5GHz in Access Points list. 3) It displays all 5GHz channels on the same screen. However, the lack of time graph and 1s refresh are the reasons I keep using both apps. Overall, Net Analyzer has the best interface with some missing features while WiFi Analyzer has all the features in a dated interface.

Great app. Replaced a similar app from years ago that included ads. Only regressions moving to this were losing a "Signal Meter" with sound blip that allowed you to leave the device in the location you were trying to improve coverage at while you adjusted the antenna/router orientation. Also lost ability on Time Graph to see 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz signals on the same graph - presently you must switch back and forth - which was useful for adjusting both frequencies on routers that output both.

The app is simple to use and does the job well. I was skeptical about location requirement. However, it was Android's requirement instead of developer's. I guess there is no choice, which explains why every other wifi scan app I check has the same location requirement. Thanks VREM team for the great work and communication 👍

Excellent app, does what it's supposed to. PSA: As for the location part on Pie, Google implemented it because WiFi can very well be used by large applications to determine location. For example, say that your neighbor is exposing his location to an app, and you're using that app as well but without location permission. Now, in old versions of Android the app could determine that because you're close to that neighbor's AP, you must be in close proximity to them. That's what Android Pie solves.
