Description of MacroDroid - Device Automation

MacroDroid is the easiest way to automate tasks on your Android smartphone or tablet. Via the straightforward user interface MacroDroid makes it possible to build fully automated tasks in just a few taps.

A few examples of how MacroDroid can help you to get automated:

# Optimize your daily workflow on your phone; switch on bluetooth and start playing music when you enter your car. Or switch on WiFi when you are near your house.
# Reduce battery drain (like dimming your screen and switching Wifi off)
# Saving on roaming costs (automatically switch off your Data)
# Increasing safety during commuting by reading your incoming notifications (via Text to Speech) and sending automated responses via email or SMS
# Make custom sound and notification profiles.
# Remind you to do certain tasks using timers and stopwatches.

These are just a few examples out of limitless scenarios where MacroDroid can make your Android life a little easier. With only 3 simple steps this is how it works:

1. Select a Trigger.

The trigger is the cue for the macro to start. MacroDroid offers over 70 triggers to start your macro, i.e. location based triggers (like GPS, cell towers, etc), device status triggers (like battery level, app starting/closing), sensor triggers (like shaking, light levels, etc) and connectivity triggers (like Bluetooth, Wifi and Notifications).
You can also create a shortcut on the homescreen of your device or run using the unique and customizable Macrodroid sidebar.

2. Select the Actions you like to automate.

MacroDroid can perform over 100 different actions, that you typically would do by hand. Connect to your Bluetooth or Wifi device, select volume levels, speak text (like your incoming notifications or current time), start a timer, dim your screen, run Tasker plugin and many more.

3. Optionally: Configure Constraints.

Constraints help you to let the macro fire only when you want it to.
Living near your work, but only want to connect to your company's Wifi during work days? With a constraint you can select specific times or days that the macro can be invoked. MacroDroid offers over 50 constraint types.

MacroDroid is compatible with Tasker and Locale plugins to expand the range of possibilities even further.

MacroDroid's unique interface offers a Wizard that guides step by step through the configuration of your first macros.
It is also possible to use an existing template from the template section and customize it to your needs.
The built-in forum allows you to get help from other users, allowing you to easy learn the ins and outs of MacroDroid.

MacroDroid offers more comprehensive solutions like the use of Tasker and Locale plugins, system/user defined variables, scripts, intents, advance logic like IF, THEN, ELSE clauses, use of AND/OR

The free version of MacroDroid is ad-supported and allows you to configure up to 5 macros. The Pro version (a small one time fee) removes all adverts and allows an unlimited amount of macros.

It's simple to construct macros to backup/copy your files to a specific folder on the device, an SD card or an external USB drive.

= Accessibility Services =

MacroDroid makes use of accessibility services for certain features like automating UI Interactions. use of accessibility services is entirely at the users discretion. No user data is ever obtained or logged from any accessibility service.

= Wear OS =

This app contains a Wear OS companion app for basic interaction with MacroDroid. This is not a standalone app and requires the phone application installed.

One of the very few truly five star apps. It will help if you have a background in basic programming and understand pass go basic boolean logic types of situations but once you do their are tons of possibilities with this app. A few uses I use it for are, setting an away and home mode. Where my device sets itself up accordingly. Like shutting down mobile data, turning on wifi, connecting to my network, or turning on Bluetooth and connecting to my speaker when in away mode.

GREAT APP. LOVE IT! Have loved everything about it. It works almost perfect. The one & only trouble I had is the "if clause" when setting up a Macro. It doesn't allow me to add any conditions to the clause. When I go to add one, it lets me select a option, but it just goes back and doesn't select the option.

I love this app, and got the paid version over a while back... I mainly got it so that the Hot Spot feature gets enabled automatically once my car's bluetooth is connected to the phone. With Android 9, this no longer works (in the SDK, startTether()) no longer works (cannot be invoked). I hope there will be a fix for this soon?

This app is so powerful! If you can handle writing macros, you can intensify your Android experience as if you had taken a genie in a bottle, and made it live inside your phone. I wrote a macro, for example, that automatically pulls up the appropriate video camera live feed when someone calls me from my building's front door. This app is also quite useful for observing changes to the cell tower you've connected with, such as unexpectedly changing towers while not moving.

First, let me start off by saying that I have been a loyal tasker user for the better part of a decade. I have purchased certain plugins that now subscription based which had me looking for alternatives. Macrodroid is much easier and you only pay a one-time fee. The plugins with Tasker, if I've already paid $10 for the plugins that I like, but there is one more that I need, I cannot buy it separately. I have to pay for the whole subscription.

My use case did require me to install the helper, but with this app I was able to force a ringtone for calendar notifications, and then set my device back to silent/vibrate after confirming a dialog. It's amazing that both Android and Samsung didn't think to have a way for users to treat calendar events as alarms. I needed this for those morning meetings, which recur biweekly. The other solution would have been an alarm app with custom schedules, but most/all cannot delete a single recurrence.

I'm using this app to replace the functionality of the dearly departed Llama app. Macrodroid is a solid app with a good user interface, a little clunky at first but it grows on you as you get used to it. For some features, like changing the volume or turning WiFi on and off there are some complex setup tasks, but that's because of recent Android OS changes, and not the developers fault - they've done a good job preserving features Google is trying to kill.

I've used several different apps of this type. IFTTT, AutomateIt, etc. & this is the best of it's kind so far. The IfTTT people got greedy & their app doesn't always work right. Others are tough to figure out. This one is strait forward, it has a very good walkthrough tutorial system & so far it does it's things right. I'm getting my phone to do what I want when I want it & having a lot of fun figuring out new ways to do things I didn't even know I wanted or were even possible. 👍🏼 Awesome job

I have dozens of macros created to do all sorts of things - switch "modes" that automatically activate or deactivate other macros, mute volume & activate "do not disturb" when I plug in my phone at night, a "meeting" mode that also mutes volume & sets "do not disturb" for a user-defined amount of time... the possibilities are endless. The upgrade to Pro was easily the best $5 I ever spent. If you have a need for functionality that your phone doesn't natively provide, get this app and build it!

This app is fantastic. It used to be even more powerful in 2020, but unfortunately the Android OS has stopped granting third parties access to very basic functions/information (such as the name of the network that the phone just connected to). Still very useful for things like sounding an alert when my battery gets too hot, but it was even more useful to me before Android stopped allowing the aforementioned access.

This should be part of Android OS. I have been looking for the ability to automate certain functions without a steep learning curve. This is it. For example, my phone screen is imposible to read in my car (Automatic Screen Brightness doesn't work because of the tinted glass). I created a macro to set screen to 95% bright when connected to my cars bluetooth. This app is very easy to use and has loads of possibilities.

Really fun to make your phone do silly things like welcome you home when you get within x meters of your house. Also really practical when you need to do a task like opening a program at a certain time of day and take a screenshot and have it emailed to someone automatically. This app is powerful and flexible and a lot of fun to play with. The possibilities are endless. Hopefully more voices can be added in the future so when my phone speaks to me I have more options. Love this app!!

MacroDroid is versatile and very easy to use. I keep finding more and more problems it can solve for me. I'm using MacroDroid to conserve battery power by literally telling me -- vocally -- I've been in high-drain location mode and by killing background apps when the screen turns off. I'm also using the app to easily restore a lapsed bluetooth connection by cycling bluetooth just by turning the phone face-down.

Brilliant piece of work. Extraordinarily high quality app. Very flexible, reasonable learning curve, and cleanly implemented. A LOT of hard work went into this app and it shows. Update: This continues to be a very well made and valuable tool. Auto-rotation recently quit working on my phone - MacroDroid to the rescue! I've got a number of great macros that really enhance the way my phone works. I'll never be without it! Thank you, Jamie!

Does not run at all (possibly an issue on 9?). I have two simple macros... Put into silent mode connecting to a Bluetooth device I have at work and put into normal sound mode when disconnecting from the same device. Using the TEST feature shows that the macros work, but they never run on their own. Was told to submit a bug, but all I could find was a forum I have to sign up for. Found a different app that actually works and doesn't force a persistent notification icon in the top bar.

Only needed one feature, seems kinda pricey? Maybe it's worth it for some, it does seem to be feature packed. I just recently got a Pixel 6 Pro, from a Note 20 Ultra and needed a way to automate playing music through Bluetooth connection. Of course, though, when I have this app play music, it shows up in my car as 'not identified' rather than showing me song name, artist, etc. Wish there was a way to fix this.

I love this app. It's super easy to set up a macro and there are a lot of things you can do. You can just take an hour or two and read through everything with their helpful descriptions. The pro version is definitely worth it. I use it as a tool and also just messing with my friends sending them random parameters at random times. You can also download macros that other people have made which I have used as templates to do other things. Super worth it, everybody should have this app.

This is a great app. Most times I don't even realize that I have it running because it does all the things that I want it to do. Including dimming my screen at night or brightening my screen whenever my device is connected to the Bluetooth of my car. Just to name a few. Sure, I could do these things manually every time but automation is king! 😉 Thanks Macrodroid.
