Description of Total Commander - file manager

Android version of the desktop file manager Total Commander (www.ghisler.com).

Important note: This app does NOT contain any ads. However, it contains a link "Add plugins (download)" in the home folder. This is treated as an ad by the Play Store because it links to our other apps (plugins).

About the new permission "SuperUser":
This permission is now requested to make Total Commander work better on rooted devices. It tells the SuperUser app that Total Commander supports root functions. It has no effect if your device is not rooted. Root functions allow Total Commander to write to system folders like /system or /data. You will be warned before anything is written if the partition is write protected.

Indisputably powerful, but also opaque and clumsy. For example, moving files is a real pain. After selecting a file and move, you don't see a clear folder tree from which to pick your destination, nor do you see an "ok" or "green tick", or other action confirmations, in order to complete your transaction. Other file managers do this common operation much better. Further, when you find a file, and press "i" for information, it does not tell you which folder the file is in - strange.

Best file manager. What could make it better: - I wish I could swipe through images, not just view one at a time. - Idk how to create a new text file, for now I have an empty one that I copy when I need it. - For better visual aid, I wish it would highlight the last folder I exited or created (also when it already exists), also found files in folder after a search because sometimes I don't remember an exact file, but I remember a neighboring one. Still, the best file manager!
A Google user
Lightweight app with powerful features, although the interface has a steep learning curve due to heavy use of icons. Very impressed with the media/music player and especially the ability to create playlists, which is a rarity in other file managers I have tried. The only thing I long for is the ability to manually rearrange the songs in the playlist.

The app is really cool! I use it to copy, move, and date modification, and many more features. A few suggestions: 1) The 'recursive' feature in 'Properties' should be hidden under a 'More...' button. So it can't be accidentally hit, and the whole directory gets j same date. 2) An undo feature! To reverse every tool, even the 'recursive' 3) A feature to set the 'modified date' based on the 'date created', and vice versa (also in batch) 4) A media viewer for pics, videos and music.

Due to Androids apparent policy changes, I couldn't access data folders on my phone, meaning that some files that I downloaded would be inaccessible to me. Thanks to this app, I managed to access all those files, I'm so ecstatic. I had to figure out a few things (like how to cut and paste files, etc.), but all in all this app has been great!

I love this app. I wanted a file manager to move files around without modifying the metadata, because it is pretty annoying for pictures and videos to lose their original dates. So this app does that just fine and has a lot of capabilities for file management. The interface needs a bit to get used to it, so maybe less familiar people might encounter difficulties using it. But I'm fine with it and over all very satisfied. Thanks!

This is the ultimate file manager. The only problem is APKs cannot be installed from the app (why did google requested to remove the feature?) Other than that it's perfect.

Awesome App. I have been using Total Commander for over 20 years on my PCs, as my go to file utility. I am so pleased to find there is Android version. The Android version takes all the pain out of file management on my mobile phone. I agree with the criticisms that the Android app. is not very intuitive. It should include more getting started help. However, once I figured it all out, mundane chores like moving, reorganizing, renaming files, etc. on became a breeze to do. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

The best unique and advanced lite files apps i ever seen but with a unimaginable twists like you have to swipe like half of the screen to view other tab and we can't deselect the list of files by simply clicking the back button instead it goes back to previous directory. Please fix these annoying things!

The app works really well in a LAN environment. It would be great if the app could also work using a (mobile data) connection e.g. over a VPN connection. Right now this is not an option.

Garbage, keep getting access denied when trying to move files Interface sucks and is confusing and convoluted ever single file manager for Android is trash this being no exception. How about just simply have copy to clipboard and paste from clip board options 0/10

The makers of Android literally tell you to use this if you need to access any of your app files, since they arbitrarily blocked access to anyone who isnt using a third-party workaround. Their tech support is like "yea we suck, try this." If they keep removing basic features like file managers and search filters, the next model of phones will literally just be bricks... like the kind you use for building. Its no wonder that literally almost a billion people switched away from Android this year.

It's pretty good, an average user could handle it & it's got features for advanced users as well. Whether you're needing an app for organizing your device, getting into developing, application security, just beginning to explore the world of or both. Then I feel I could recommend this application and would be an excellent first file manager app. However if you're not really sure about this app exploring information on file managers most used by your brand of device and see which is best for you.
TECHNICAL CHASKA
First of all a very thanks to the developer for building this application. This helped me a lot in accessing files from my homeserver. However, I didnt found an issue yet but still UI of this app can be more user friendly and improved further. I found this app's UI is pretty complex so it would be very helpful if developers work on this. THANKS!

The best file manager in my opinion. It's efficient, provides all the necessary functionality and is mostly intuitive, with a good bunch of options and stuff in context menus. There are also separate plugins for FTP etc.

Total Commander is the best free file manager that has no ads. Unfortunately, it has serveral EXTREMELY annoying operations. #1 Sometimes switches to main system directory (upper left floppy disc icon) by itself. Sometimes when the user selects it, folder on opposite panel is switched also. #2 Bookmarks cannot be edited or deleted, only created. If path gets changed, bookmark becomes useless. #3 Files moved from internal flash to SD Card not deleted, requiring selecting again and deleting.

Switching panels is a major pain in the thumb. You need to drag your thumb over 3/4 of the screen's width to swap panels, and it doesn't react to flicks at all, no matter how fast. Make this work with flicks and 1/4-1/2 width drags! Screens these days are too big for poorly implemented touch controls.

Amazing app. I use it to search anything from anylocation inside my phone. It is packed with diffwrent search capacities and has the help files accessable offline . At first looks intimidating but makes you a student every time you try a new feature. Amazing and thank you for the developers.
