Description of HERE WeGo: Maps & Navigation

Welcome to the new HERE WeGo!

HERE WeGo is a free navigation app that guides local and global travelers on journeys both familiar and foreign. The app now has a fresh, new design and clearer, easier to use navigation.

Enjoy a more carefree journey and reach your destination effortlessly, however you need to get there. Get there on foot with easy-to-follow walk guidance. Take public transport in more than 1,900 cities around the world. Or use turn-by-turn voice guidance with accurate driving directions and go by car. You can even find parking at your destination and get guided directly to it.

Visit the same places often? Save them in a collection to stay organised and find them easier. Or use shortcuts to get directions to them in one click

Need to make an extra stop or want to go a specific way? Simply add waypoints to your routes and HERE WeGo guides you there.

Want to save your mobile data and stay on course even without an internet connection when travelling? Download a map of a region, country or continent and complete your journey while staying totally offline.

And what's next

A great app with offline maps available. Very convenient especially when traveling abroad & limiting data usage. However, since my Samsung phone was recently updated to Android 11 & UI 3.0, the app doesn't open at all. I've tried restarting my phone, but no change. Based on other reviews, issue seems to be related to using external memory/SD card as the storage.

Used to have an option to save data to a SD card instead of using the phone's internal memory. Don't see that option now. Numerous attempts to install maps have failed except for the smaller file for Washington. The app removed useful features like multiple route options. I was finally able to download the maps. I had to uninstall the app and reinstall it.

I really like this on Android Auto. Satellite view is pretty cool. The notification on screen of an upcoming Rest stop on the Interstate is literally something I've wanted for over a decade. It was exciting to see. It's not perfect on Android Auto yet, but I like it better than any other Android Auto navigation app. And I've tried all of them I can find. The fact that it is free, is secondary. It's really good now. Not just good for a free app.

Suddenly I keep getting "off the rails" messages, even if the transit planning was working literally minutes before, and it also happens with taxis (downtown Denver is definitely not a "taxi-free zone") the only remedy is to uninstall and reinstall the app, which is not particularly practical. What is going on?! ETA: Thank you for the response - I look forward to restoring this rating to five stars!

On Android Auto, in driving mode (non nav mode), there isn't a way to close/hide the big search pane. It blocks most of the display. Otherwise I like it, but other options offer a much better driving mode as they allow full screen without a big search window hogging up the screen. Until then, I'm going back to other Apps. EDIT: There are use cases for driving without a destination and needing nav. We know where we are going by heart, driving around aimlessly, searching for parking...

EPIC FAIL on first real tryout. I tried using it to get navigate a 38 mile drive on a route I drive almost daily. First, it skipped a useful shortcut I always take (originally found via Google Maps). A few miles later, defying all logic, this app directed me into a subdivision to a dead end - 22 miles from my destination. I can't imagine what it might do on a route I am unfamiliar with!

Wow, the Oct 2021 "Makeover" is a belly flop. The added glitz in the UI is pointless but more importantly performance has taken a dive, particularly that when trying to save maps to external storage the app freezes irretrievably without any indication of what is going on. In some cases there is a download in the background and in others the app is just frozen. Does not occur when saving to internal storage. For an app whose main strength has been saving to external storage that is disasterous.

The UI is clean and refreshing. The app is super fast and doesn't use hardly any battery. I absolutely love having offline maps for entire states/countries too. They don't work for searching though. The navigation voice is changeable and you can save locations. Traffic data isn't the best (it's mostly acceptable though). It would also be nice if it told you what lane(s) to be in. I know Google Maps and I think even Apple Maps have that feature.

I only downloaded this to see if I could have a better experience than Google Maps on Android Auto. But just like Maps, Here We Go had the same problem on Android Auto, there is no button that will allow me to move the search bar and menu off the map which forces my arrow to be in the bottom right hand corner of the screen effectively keeping me from seeing the full map. The only way to get it off the screen is to type in an address and then it moves enough to see full screen map.

Can't recommend in it's current state. Used to be great for offline navigation in the mountains. Got a new phone and this new version downloaded to it. Constant crashes and hangups/freezes. Takes minutes at app start up(screen is frozen) to even navigate the app. It has gotten some what better. I can at least search offline now, but it crashes more than half the time. Will be looking for an alternative.

I really love this app and I've been using it a long time. The ability to download offline maps is clutch and the recent Android auto update is much appreciated. If I had one critique or suggestion, it would be with the destination pins when approaching your destination. I wish that, instead of being placed directly on the road, that the pins be placed to the left or right of the road so that you can tell from a distance which side of the road the destination resides when you're approaching.

Doesn't switch to landscape mode. Since my car phone holder only holds my phone sideways, it makes this a useless app currently. Worked fine in the previous design. The redesign is less functional. Also, it is no longer recognized as a map app to use to open addresses. Used to be a good app. Ruined now. Also forces a temp reading on you. I'm in a car. I can see the damn weather. Stop blocking the map with useless data. I can't believe they messed up so badly and haven't fixed it in so long.

I've used this navigation app for several years, but it's just broken now. It won't load properly, is laggy/slow, and just doesn't function like it used to. It was my go to navigation app. It's not a phone issue, because I've had several different ones over the past year or so and it was the same with all of them. I really hope they get it fixed, but I've moved in to other navigation apps. Here Wego will still remain on my phone, in the hopes it gets improved.

Haven't tried the navigation on this version yet but, it used to be you could queue up map downloads and say go to bed and get up the next morning and have them all done.. now you can't. You have to do one at a time. And while a download is running if you switch away from the app and try to come back, you get stuck at the splash screen. Needs some work in that area.

Would love to get off Google Maps b/c HERE promises better privacy... but the map quality is awful (at least in Houston, TX). Everything's shifted by hundreds of meters. A nearby gas station is shifted to the middle of a park, the office building where I work is shifted to a neighborhood on the other side of a highway, etc. - I have yet to find something that's actually in the right place. App was easy to use for the couple weeks I tried, but it's unusable if you don't know where you're going.

Unfortunately, this apps "facelift" has made it clunky, unintuitive, and altogether a poor experience. From start to navigation used to take maybe 30 seconds at most. Imagine my horror when I updated this app and had to redownload all offline maps, had to wait an awfully long time for it to find a route to a major US city I was traveling to, WHILE connected to service, and upon starting the app in airplane mode, (something which worked fine on the prior version), it force-closes. Unreliable now.

Works really well. During start up, it needs a lot of processing power to acquire GPS signal; if it doesn't have enough, it wouldn't lock to the signal. The nice thing is it can have offline maps the whole US so that it doesn't need cell signal during navigation, which is very useful in rural area where signal is a premium

The navigation's great. Turns come up maybe a second earlier than when you actually have to turn. Location icons (such as gas stations, hotels, etc.) could be a little bigger, but still very useful. My only real gripes are that the voice guidance keeps trying to turn itself back on, the voice module re-downloads after updates when I delete it, and it crashes if I leave it in the background for too long.
