Description of British Gas Energy

We’ve built a brand-new app to support customers whose accounts are already on our new billing system. 

Unsure if that is you?

If your account number begins with an ‘A’ or 'BGX'  then good news! You’ve already moved to our new system, so just log in and use the new app straight away.

If your account number begins with ‘85’  this means you’re still on our current system. We’ll let you know once you’ve moved over, so you can start using the new app.

There’s nothing you need to do, we’ll take care of everything.

You can still access your Energy and Home Services account on our website.

What does this app do now?

• Manage your account balance
• View recent transactions and bills
• Make a payment
• Amend or set up Direct Debit
• Submit a meter reading for more accurate bills
• Manage multiple energy accounts
• Securely save passwords through the Keystore functionality
• Fingerprint and face unlock
• Stay permanently logged in with our improved login experience
• Monitor your energy usage if you have a smart meter that sends us half-hourly readings
• Update your smart meter settings (you can change to half-hourly here so you can see your energy usage)

What will this app do in the future?

Awful "upgrade" on the old app. Old app use to give you a nice graph so you could compare usage over the year. This is no longer available; imagine moving people to a new app with less features. Everything from the previous app should have been available day one before moving people over.

This app is completely pointless. You may as well just have a shortcut to the website account. Also i paid this months amount but my balance has vanished and just shows what I've paid this month. I might switch from British Gas now as they clearly have lost the plot. I'm unistalling. Will look for a new provider.

The previous app was a bit slow but it was easy to navigate and held all the information I needed to manage my account. The most annoying feature of the new app and my online account is that I can't check and compare my usage over a year without downloading all the bills. How is this thought to be an improvement? Please restore the ability to see usage in Kwh at a glance.

Like everything else British Gas, this app is useless and, quite amazingly, a backward step even from the previous version, which was pretty hopeless itself. Provides insufficient info, hasn't had the data from their old system imported so historic info isn't available, and isn't worth bothering with as to see what you're likely to want to see, you need to log into your account on their almost as clunky website anyway. It was the last straw which finally pushed me to switch away from BG.

Worst app ever 😡 The old energy app had it's issues, but worst case scenario I could see my energy usage up to 5 days ago Just tried this version again and it is over a month behind, that information was on my latest statement, which I could see but not download or print 😡 Why were we forced onto a new app that clearly doesn't work, it was supposed to be a "new and improved" version . Would give ZERO STARS if I could 😞

Bring back the old app. Can't check anything here. Even if you want to check the reading history online, it says to visit the previous account and when you click the button it just loops back. Its frustrating, can't keep track. Yesterday I had good amount of credit but today its almost half, given no bill is generated. I can't even have the track of my usage. What's the use of half baked new app?

This app is awful. If I could give a zero rating, I would. Only my electricity account is showing despite BG advising me that both my gas and electric accounts have been moved. You can no longer view your usage when you submit readings. What's the point in forcing a new app on people when half of the functionality of the previous one is missing.

The previous app and system was much better as it showed the standing charges and unit price, allowed me to follow my usages, etc. The new system is very simple and missing key information about my usage. I does not build trust for me at all. What's the point to have an app if the end of the day I have to write down every data on paper and support it with photos with dates. Also all my previous readings dissappeared which is very worrying.

Thankfully I've a record of my previous readings or I would be stuffed as I calculate my monthly readings then pay. I've tried to pay my bill but the app keeps making me log in over and over. Whatever was wrong with the old app? It worked. This doesn't. Sick and tired of British Gas. Am definitely looking to move to a company of my choice rather than the one chosen for me after Bristol Energy folded.

Completely pointless. I have smart meters and usage doesn't show, it simply asks for readings. I downloaded the app expecting it to be an improvement on the old system but somehow it's worse..... Zero Stars.

I have been with BG for 20 years! They are going down hill. The old app had its floors but at least there was a lot of useful information. The new app is shocking! Can't view old usage. It is not user friendly at all. The peak save where I am meant to get half price energy from 11-4pm is rubbish too. I do x7 loads of washing, dishwasher, hoover etc on a Sunday and put my heating up to 23 form 11-4pm. Apparently I'm only saving 60p. It's becoming a joke!!

I really wanted to give zero stars as this app is appalling. It's shocking because you've been working on this app since 2021. Was the person working on it off sick for 99% of the time?? This will make me switch suppliers, especially when it's telling me to enter my password again to pay on my account that I'm already logged into. Why do I have to log in AGAIN to pay? I can't log in because the reset link for the password is always expired when clicking the link. I can't reset my password 🤬

This app is useless... Can't see any of my previous usage or any of my previous payments from before the new app started, want to see if I were useing more or less than the previous year and can't do it.. want to know if all my previous payments are correct, can't see that... Went to look to see if my direct debit was to low or to high so I can amend that.... Can't do that now.... whoever the bright spark was who done this app I hope they were not paid much, nothing wrong with the old one. 0/10

Exciting - no way! I did not expect much and I did not get much. At least it displays on my android phone better, as I am sight impaired. Otherwise it is as exciting as being slapped in the face with a wet kipper. No usage history. No payment history. Will the next update be better? I doubt it given this one. Ohyes, it is no better on my iPad

The only useful function is letting you enter a manual meter reading. Update: entering a meter reading crashed the app hard. Now crashes before I can even enter a value. Has zero smart meter function. If you thought the old app was poor you grossly underestimated the utter incompetence of BG, something so bad I thought it couldn't get worse has been beaten by this POS.

Classic example of an MVP (Minimal Valuable Product) that is not an MVP yet. I'm wondering how you prioritised experiences and functionalities considering that checking bills and history is probably the most common taks, way more than submit reading considering you need a smart meter formths app and with a smart meter you don't need to submit a reading. Have you done any user research at all before kicking off this project? How is it possible that you did not prioritise data migration?!

So they've taken a poor app away and replaced it with one that is worse. This is actually quite a difficult task so deserves whatever the exact opposite of credit is. The functionality is significantly reduced and it looks like it has been designed by "someone's best mate called Dave who has done a course".

Absolutely crazy!!! Can't access, can't see bills, can't pay! If it ain't broke don't fix it! The previous worked better!!! Someone's definitely made money from agreeing to, investing in, and developing a useless new app!!! No testing, no quality assurance, nothing it seems! 😡🤬
