Description of Sound Amplifier

Sound Amplifier makes everyday conversations and surrounding sounds more accessible among people who are hard of hearing, using just your Android phone and a pair of headphones. Use Sound Amplifier to filter, augment, and amplify sounds around you and on your device.

Available for devices with Android 8.1 and later. To start using Sound Amplifier, connect your headphones then go to Settings > Accessibility > Sound Amplifier or Settings > Accessibility > Downloaded apps.

Features
• Reduce unwanted noise to recognize speech better.
• Focus on a speaker’s voice in noisy environments with conversation mode. (Available for Pixel 3 and above.)
• Listen to conversations, TV, or lectures. For audio sources that are farther away, Bluetooth headphones are recommended. (Bluetooth headphones might have delayed sound transmission.)
• Personalize your listening experience for surrounding conversation or media playing on your device. You can reduce noise or boost low frequency, high frequency, or quiet sounds. Set your preferences for both ears or separately for each ear.
• Turn Sound Amplifier on and off using the accessibility button, a gesture, or Quick Settings. Learn more about the accessibility button, gesture and Quick Settings: https://support.google.com/accessibility/android/answer/7650693
• Open Sound Amplifier more easily by adding it to your app list. In Sound Amplifier settings, turn on “Show icon in the app list”.

Requirements
• Available for Android 8.1 and later.
• Pair your Android device with headphones.
• Conversation mode is currently available on Pixel 3 and above.

Backroom Roamer
Does what it's designed for. I used this on my airpods pro and gonna use on wired earphone also. You can boost the Sound Or the frequencies and it's works very well. Good job Google.

Has a lot of potential, but could be better, e.g. offer a choice of which microphone to use like the Live Caption app does. Indeed, integrating these 2 hearing assitive apps could be helpful

It's good 👍 Needs a little tuning here and there would be nice if the app remembered the settings you have adjusted. Also the transparency features on pixel buds well honestly they suck would nice if the sound amplifier was integrated into the pixel buds it would be a good feature for us hard of hearing

I have hearing lose due to noise pollution and having discovered sound amplifier it has saved me from getting hearing aids so early in life. Now i can hear conversations i never could before. The things people say when they belive you cant hear, has been a hard lession in thoughtlessness. Thank you for a small peice of freedom and knowing what people really think when you have your back to them. Keep up the good work now all i need an app to help me spot dark soul people.

I've been happy with a program overall. There are a few buggies in it. When getting a text message program stops. When the boost is at 90 to 100%, If feed back occures it is hard to stop it. There are a few more things but it's best I have used.

With the new update this app is astonishing! (9/25/23). The volume boost plus the sensitivities with the frequencies make this app supreme. If you don't like it, it just means you don't have supreme quality headphones (I.E. Made in China > or nothing), or you don't understand how the app works with the functionality of the of your hearing style.

It's a good app if your phone (like mine, the Galaxy A14) has bad EQ. I use this because my audio quality on the A14 is terrible compared to the A10E, and it nearly brings me back to A10E levels. My only issue that prevents this app from being a five star is that the app could be a full on sound EQ customizer, fully supported by Google with more stability than normal apps (making it more useful for all phones), rather than a mini EQ with limited settings.
The Assortment
Works really well, you just need to allow it to work without an ear piece or headphones. It's really handy when meshed with an equalizer and man does it really make it help up the quality by making vocals super clear and stuff, I just think it'd be nice if you let people use it with speakers via phone or otherwise.

Remarkable App., A perfect antidote for the MP3 poison....If u r sick of MP3....this app will revive your listening experience to a decent level...upto 50% of actual music...no equaliser no other App can match this one, however the clarity in high frequencies is also accompanied by appreciable noise too... or is that MP3 is not the culprit n I need to get my hearing checked for high freq,.LOL ...but whatever, this app does take me closer to the sound quality of cassette Walkman from Sony.

Not sure why this app exists, when there are other apps that can boost sound in your headphones and on your phone, often for a fee. It does what it says, but not much. Wish this would amplify the microphone as well. To dream.

App did absolutely nothing to enhance sound/screen noise on calls. And once the widget is added to screen, good luck removing it! Instructions for setting could not be more opaque. Brilliant too that it is only to be used with wired headphones when newer phones have no headphone jacks.

this is a great idea, i wanted to use it in a band situation (i play guitar in a loud band) but the latency makes that impossible. most hearing protection is currently unable to provide lossless audio however if this can be set up with low latency (and seeing most smart phones no longer have wired headphones) then this would be just what i'm looking for.

Amazing! I have temporary partial hearing loss in one ear and was having a lot of trouble communicating with people. It wasn't feasible to explain my hearing issues to everyone I encountered. This app was a lifesaver. There's a slight lag, but nothing too significant. Highly recommend!

Great concept, but totally useless without the option to use Bluetooth headphones. Would be even better to use the microphone on the bt headphones instead of the phone's mic to essentially make them act like hearing aids. Particularly with the new pixel buds' "beamforming" microphones, this is a must have feature for an app like this. Still a great concept though.

I've tried to use this app in noisy environments like restaurants, in order to hear my friends' conversations beside me, but it is useless. I can't seem to notice any difference when the sound amplification is supposed to be working. The waveform displayed at the top has only a small area greyed out, nothing like what is shown in the images here. I wish there were more accessible options for people like me who find it impossible to hear speech in noise.

Very amazed by simply Google or Play Store to still be updating this app. I've found it very useful over the years for family members and or clients with an additional set of hearing device works with toggles too. Especially with Bluetooth and can pick to use phone as a speaker nearby or can have an older set(TV) with volume on 1 with any BT headphones as the transmitter . Nice feature when you have on a set of cans is the ability to hear even a door open in the other room if you wanted to!

I just used it as a hearing aid on this phone and earbuds. Once I played with the adjustments a little, I was finally able to understand voices from about 7' away. My left ear has lost its high-frequency response, so it cannot hear cymbals. The same is true with the consonants such the letter C , which makes it difficult to understand speech. Although my right ear is not as bad, this app is a keeper until I need expensive DSP hearing aids.

For everyone complaining about the update, uninstall the updates. Secondly, it says right in the description, it's for boosting sounds that are hard to hear while using headphones in a noisy area. This app without headphones would be like holding a microphone to a speaker, feedback. If you want a volume booster download that, don't give this a bad review cause you can't read the description. 3 stars for overall quality. App is in accessibility menu on most phones, Samsung version worked better.
