A Google user
App is about a 3 1/2 star. It does a great job recording. it will even record both sides of a phone conversation. Problem is with the transcription. It does not recognize my voice. When others start speaking it will say there's 10 different people, when really there is only 2. So it doesn't know how to recognize that the same voice is talking again. Also misses a lot of words & gets them wrong even though they are crystal clear in recording. Not good enough to pay for yet. But I like it.

I like that it will record your voice and words at the same time so you can listen to how things were said while you read them. As a writer and podcaster this helps me write my scripts. Also, being able to send transcripts to other programs like MS Word and/or send audio files is super awesome... however, it would be more awesome if I could edit the transcriptions while recording so when the app doesn't get a word right or missed one completely I don't have to wait until I'm finished.

I have previously use Otter to transcribe lectures and meetings. It does pretty well, but it does require some cleanup. Lately, I have started using Otter to capture ideas for a book series. I have been able to plan character arcs and settings while on a walk or in a hot tub- very nice. The challenge I experienced was with my bone conduction headphones; the software and the headphones seemed pretty incompatible, turning my voice into a whisper. No help files - just "use an external microphone."

So far, this app is working great. Its the only app I've found that handles multiple voices, and that can keep up with normal-speed speech. In a test, with 2 minutes of talking from two different people it made one minor mistake. That's amazing, especially since this was recorded sound that I was transcribing by holding headphones up to my phone. Nothing else I've tried even comes close. It even deletes all the ums and other verbal tics without missing any real words. Really impressive.

I am a huge fan of their transcription service and it has saved me hours of work over the last couple years. But since they removed the ability to upload external recording in the free version and forced usage of the app I have had nothing but issues. The app constantly doesn't upload and transcribe the entire file and I almost always have to contact customer support.

It could be better. I can't edit a conversation in case I want a simple audio recording and transcript for creative work. And the onboarding experience requires me to sign up before use of local functionality, which is always a hastle, also even after logging in and tutorial, an activity survives. There's also a modal that overlaps the tutorial. It's a great concept and good presentation, the meeting aspect may work, I haven't tried, but in features it can improve. Apologies, just trying to help

I have to change this review because Otter makes it difficult to contact customer service. Their message system has failed and there is not other contact information available. My problem is that I no longer need Otter, the project I signed on for is finished. I downloaded all of the important audio and transcription files and, probably due to Covid related stress and confusion last year, failed to delete the account. They charged me $99.99 today and I am attempting to reach them and ask for that money to be refunded before i delete the account. I want them to be able to see the software has not been used in almost a year. Why does a reputable company not provide a way to contact them? I have been a happy customer until now, see my original review below. My original rating was five stars. Otter does a great job of recording and transcribing. I used Otter to record 92+ hours of live conversations and telephone interviews using Otter and am impressed at the clarity. It builds a keyword list which is helpful. The transcripts are not 100%, so users should listed to the recordings and edit the transcript. It isn't 100% right in terms of tagging speakers, BUT the quality and clarity of the recordings is the best I've seen. In preparation for this manuscript, I tested several apps.

I am a student. This app is a great tool to augment lecture notes. The app transcribes the lecture in real time. I've had about a 30-40% margin of error on words. These are easily corrected within the context of 60-70% correct words. I can save the recording as a text file and recording. Listening to the recording helps with me as I review the text and edit the errors.

Initially, it was great. We were looking for an alternative to writing out meeting minutes, So we got the pro subscription. Once the audio being imported was more than 30 minutes it went downhill. Words are not accurate, the beginning of a new speaker's sentence is being added at the end of the previous speaker's section. And not just occasionally, its nearly every time now. I've spent as much time making corrections as I would have simply typing out the minutes myself. Pretty disappointed

The app works very well at understanding and transcribing my spoken words. To me, that is very impressive. The app is intuitive and very well designed. The app developers are responsive and helpful. It would be great if the added feature to create a custom vocabulary of ones own unique words, names, and phrases could be offered as a one-time in-app purchase, separate from the general premium upgrade. I believe users who may not otherwise upgrade to the premium version may still opt to pay separately for this added feature. Thank you for the great app.

As I aged, this writer's notes devolved into gibberish. Recording interviews added immensely to the workload, scrolling back and forth on the timeline to fish out a quote. Eventually, I began to consider quitting. Then I thought 🤔 I need an app that captures spoken word as text. An app that can output a script with speakers identified. Surely, there must be something out there, already available. Happily, there is.

This app seems like a cool idea. I like that you can organize transcriptions into files and that it has easy sharing. However, I need to transfer audio recordings from an old school recorder that doesn't connect to a computer and also have written transcriptions filed. It was hardly accurate enough to use and doesn't pick up on the quieter voice sections no matter how high the volume and close proximity. Unfortunately it doesn't work for me.

Definitely recommendthis app! 4.5 The only thing that bothered me was the fact that some of the terminology we used was not clearly understood. We had to go back and edit the text and listen to audio for the exact terminology that was used. Overall it was a great app and very convenient that the recording audio was avaliable too. I think what could help improve the app would be the ability to break down the recordings to smaller skits per speaker every time as well as cover entire conversation.

Otter is a fantastic app. The free version is highly generous and I've never had a problem with any spam or ads. The accuracy of transcription when using the app is nearly perfect every time; without you having to annunciate every word flawlessly (which I definitely do not). the app is simple and straightforward enough for anyone to use; however there are also several handy and unique features for power users. I hope they come out with a keyboard! thank you devs :)

It attributes Multiple speakers even when there is only one. It at times has difficulty with words and short phrases especially when not spoken in an abnormal slower pace with clear enunciation. ultimately, the most accurate transcription tool I've found. dragon and others are supposedly better but when I tried them they were either too inaccurate or to cumbersome to be of use. I'd be willing to pay for the app if it was reasonably priced. Until then I'll utilize the free version.

Otter has been my go to app for transcript services for years now, and I promoted them to everyone. But unfortunately with their plans changing, reducing the number of minutes, and number of imports, as well as not updating to improve by including features like basic dictation commands, I am no longer able to recommend them to anyone with a high volume of production. They are good at what they did. For many 1200 words and 10 imports per month will be good enough, but the cost to value is poor.

Recent update no longer allows for zoom on photos. Huge issue. Edit: the developer response is completely incorrect. I was not talking about the software zoom, but in fact being able to zoom in when taking photos! I need to take pictures of the slides in my physics courses and I can no longer zoom in to get the pictures I need. I just paid $90 for this product and it's basically become worthless to me now.

It does a pretty accurate job of transcribing an audio interview into a text file. I really like how you can tag different speakers and include that in the exported file. It's also nice how you can review the audio recording and text simultaneously. There's a 40 minute limit per recording, so you need to plan for that. Overall a great app that works as advertised.
