If you subscribe from here (rather than the site) subscription won't work for the site and support won't be able to fix it.

The notifications for suggested articles are really good. Pressing the notification to read that article, however, just opens the app and doesn't go to the article in the notification. Useless.

OK but would benefit from a widget to show recent articles

A long time ago I had a subscription to New Scientist but I cancelled after difficulties with my subscription. After 20 or so years I thought they might have got their act together. I was wrong. I log in but my subscription has vanished. They need to reduce their persistent marketing and sort out their administration or again I will cancel. I have now had customer support solve the problem. Today the problem is back. The more it changes the more it stays the same!

Please make it possible to play all of the current issue in order aythen stop. Play list doesn't work correctly. If you click play issue it gets stuck in an endless loop. Makes listening awful. To manually add each item in the current issue to a playlist is difficult and has a strange attraction to the issue intro.

Awful! I was a subscriber for over 50 years, but I won't renew until they sort this app out. It loses your place in the magazine, pages often refuse to scroll, and it kept saying that I didn't have a subscription so I couldn't read it. I still haven't been able to access the last three issues of my last subscription! (I can't afford the print version.)

Not fit for purpose !, I have been a subscriber via the play store for two years, I have had the subscription validation issues on and off over this period, but now it is even worse, the app will not recognise my subscription at all, and I have had enough and ended my subscription. I will however renew my subscription through the official new scientist website and not the play store, hope that works better. Appears to be working again, so I'll add some stars, stops working I'm taking them back!

Too much politicized reporting and very little of the high quality critical thinking which was a hallmark of the previous editor. Also a lot of hassle to read the articles even though I have an active subscription. It keeps telling me to subscribe but also "active subscription found" If signal is poor (and I spend a lot of time in the mountains with no signal) I cannot read downloaded magazines consistently.

I use this app all the time. the publication speaks for itself (I have been a subscriber for nearly 10 years so there's my recommendation on that) The app functions well (except from one episode between updates where it was deleting everything but that is fixed now.) Suggested additions - Cloud storage for bookmarks and quotes (either NS server side or Google drive). When I upgrade devices I lose all my old clips! - Spritz type red-line reader ... or 2 birds with one stone and text to speech integration (which the Spritz app could then read)

Great for reading when delivery of magazine has been delayed, but I much preferred the old version of the app. Used to be able to download an issue and then access from phone when offline. Can still download an issue, but can't then find a way of getting to it without a signal. Where is the link to "downloaded issues"? Have often found myself on underground and unable to load the issue I want to read even though I downloaded it before leaving home, so not fit for purpose really.

consistently painful and annoying. in the good old days it used to present the magazine in a familiar format that I enjoyed & remember where I was in the magazine. If I left the country I'd still be able to read the ones I'd downloaded. These days it presents the website view, doesn't scale well or remember where I am up to, and quite frequently won't let me read anything. And when you leave the country you can expect to have issues reading let alone downloading.

No option to view the magazine "as a magazine", like say, a pdf file. This is all i want. Print+digital photos of each print page to view on a tablet. Why is this so hard for them to do. Other magazines do it. Love the print copy and hope they keep printing, but i cant always take them with me to read and they often got damaged in the mail, when subscribed before. Scientific American give you an actual PDF file, so you can keep your digital copy even if you unsubscribe and then dont need an app.
Nicholas Adams
Mostly good but some issues: 1) The app doesn't remember where you left off, so refinding necessary each time. This seems a fundamental omission. 2) Certain parts seem hardcoded (usually the extras on articles) to appear on a white background, ignoring accessibility/theme settings. 3) it's prone to sudden mega-scrolls. For visual reasons I have the text as large as it will go which means more frequent scroll taps and may induce behaviour not seen when required less frequently.
Jeff Tranter
When it works it provides a reasonable basic reader. Currently, despite having a valid subscription, it will not provide access to the latest edition. Helpdesk unable to help, only to escalate matter. Has happened before, this and other matters suggest subscription software is not fit for purpose. 3 days later and the current issue is still not available. I suspect it is illegal to charge and advertise for a service that doesn't exist.

My main user of the app is audio. The audio playlist has a mind of its own. Keeps going back to articles I've listened before. I can only reliably listen to what I want to one article at a time. Doubly frustrating when a) there's been a massive app makeover, did anyone test this bit and b) I'm listening to fabulous technical content but failing as a result of poorly implemented technology. Oh, and which UI designer suggested putting history above what's next? Check out the Economist app.

Very slow to load, so slow in fact that i often give up. Poor

Subscribed to both print and app and yet only managed to get one downloaded issue. The app just booted me out and tells me there is a problem with your credentials. Not cool. I can access the website with the exact same details and even had been logged in and got last months issue. I don't understand. Please fix, I am a new subscriber and paid upfront for the year but it is useless if I can't download any issues.

So disappointing. Firstly, I love the New Scientist magazine and finally decided to take the step to subscribe and read on my devices. Key points that were disappointing: -The overall experience is stuck in the 90's. -Minimal/no self service features -App has less functionality than the website -App only serves as a 'magazine downloader'. -Requires repeated login using an archaic reference number paired with email It really leaves me with the impression that NS behind the scenes is failing to adapt to new media types and are stuck in their ways. **I'll happily sign back up once you've a basic news UX sorted!**
