The official BBC News app offers you the latest live news you can trust from our UK and global network of journalists.

Download the BBC News app, where you'll get top stories and breaking news, live reporting, and the option to follow news topics that match your interests. Our topics range from UK News, Health, Lifestyle, Culture, Business, Technology and Science and Environment. These can all be found in the My News tab in the app.

Now stopped using it as a default news app after the latest update. Dreadful UI especially in the customisation functionality. I thought it may be just me, however reading the feedback on here & watching BBC Newswatch 16th sept, I am not alone. Listening to the BBC Digital Director on Newswatch defending the changes, its clear it won't change - effectively we're supposed to like it. Lack of use (due to poor UI) will mean discontinued functionality and further demise of a great establishment.

Don't like this new look at all the app was fine , ever heard the saying if it ain't broke don't fix it!! It looks terrible, the My News section is confusing the category I put 4th appears at the top! Completely awful bring back the compact view. This app is like tge bbc in the 1970's full of repeats, as you scroll down the same articles are just repeated upto 3 times and in the regional 'area' is full of articles nothing to do with where you live. Please bin it and return to last version!!!

As others have mentioned, this version is absolutely dreadful. Also, the lack of a widget means I am expected to open the app if I want to see anything, which is not going to happen. Before, you could quickly catch up just by viewing the widget. Soon to be removed from all my devices after many years of using it. I would give it zero stars if I could.

The app with its latest layout (Aug 23) is just too clunky to use in comparison to the old layout. I have compared against the Web version & the top rated links aren't in sync, it doesn't populate articles correctly and is filled with bloat. I do prefer the dark colour scheme, but if it was more like the mobile Web version, I believe this would be an improvement. There are some things that are better, e.g. custom news layout, but it is missing too much in comparison to the previous version

They've made the app ten time worse. It's much harder to see news categories now. There's nowhere to click on a specific category, even in the "your news" section, there's no way to select categories, the articles are randomised from all your chosen categories. The search function sucks. I typed in my city name and couldn't find a new article about the city from the previous day. That's doubly annoying when you're trying to use the search function to compensate for the lack of category selection

Massive downgrade in terms of usability and accessibility. New font is much harder to read, and spacing makes text loose it's flow. Left/right swipe to go between next and previous articles and home/own is no longer their meaning constant going back to home screen and then finding need article clicking reading and doing the same, rather than a quick swipe through the articles. I can only think this is so distinct clicks clicks can be logged, a huge minus for users, just to data mine our usage

BBC, you haven't remotely listened to your app users! This supposed Oct 2023 'update' to the previous disaster of an 'upgrade' is so cosmetic. It doesn't make your previous mistake any better!! And what about a toggle switch for those who would like to go back to the original, and BETTER, version ie pre 7.1.1? Still a one star AT BEST in this current version.

"New experience" is not good, too few article listings displayed at once, unable to quickly navigate to a topic e.g. Technology. "Old experience" is fine but needs a dark mode. Update: "New Experience" is now the unchangeable default. No improvements seen to have been made to the layout issue. Update: removing a star as the app no longer loads, cleared cache, uinstalled and reinstalled, no dice. Doesn't look like anyone else is too happy either. I think you may have killed this app.

The new design is appalling. Widgets gone, less information shown at one time, way more space taken up by whatever the top story is, and while you can't side swipe between categories any more, it still captures your side swipes and denounces, so if you slightly slide away from vertical it stops scrolling and pretends to go sideways. But, the BBC won't listen to reviews because they've clearly done no usability testing and I'm not sure if they ever have.

Version 7.0.1 is terrible. You can't scroll left right to read different articles. You have to go back to the homepage every time. What were you thinking? Update 01/09/2023 Very disappointing to see that you haven't listened to users and the app is still in this changed format. It really is terrible. Why copy the BBC Sports app format? It was never good. Please give us back our old BBC News

I left it a few weeks to see if I simply needed time to get used to the new app layout. However, it's just awful and seemingly, I'm not the only one who thinks so. Clearly falling on very deaf ears though. Just seen Naja Nielsen (Digital Director) on Newswatch. Clearly she still thinks she's right and every end user is wrong. The overall message is to suck it up as she has no intention to listen to end users.

This used be an excellent app which I used daily but now, after it updated last night (I usually have to allow but this time it just did it!) it all looks very different and I can't find the things I like to read about or listen to or sometimes watch (eg sport highlights)(through links)!! The previous layout was SO much nicer, clearer, easier to navigate. I can't seem to get back to that previous version, so may be sadly saying goodbye to this app soon.

This new version is terrible. I can no longer see an efficient list of my news articles and can't swipe between them. I feel like I'm being told what stories to read, rather than being able to quickly browse headlines or swipe through the story list to find things that interest me. Functionality, accessibility and usefulness have been absolutely ruined. PLEASE BBC revert to the older version! Bin this one completely. You must know this new version of the app is poor. What is your agenda here?

The latest update has ruined the experience for me. In the previous app I could go my news and select the topic I want from the top. Now I have to go to my news and scroll through all the topics before I can get to what I want to read. Also in previous app you can click on 1 photo in an article and ut will also let you see all the other photos in the article. Now you have to scroll through all the article to see every photograph individually. Sky News layout is much better then BBC news now.

Retrograde upgrade! Previous version has been my choice of news app for many, many years enabling me to select my interests and navigate quickly. This new version restricts selection, repeats news on the same pageand is less easy to navigate. In fact, the BBC seemed to have done a great job in wrecking a perfectly good app. For the first time I am now looking to find an alternative news app.

Shocking app now. Hate the fact that stories are repeated until you get to the section you want to see. Scrolling through lots of unnecessary items to get to your chosen areas is frustrating. No one I know is pleased with the changes, I hope whomever was responsible reads the reviews and does something about it. For the first time ever, I will change the source of my news.

Such a poor update, favouring form over function. It's gone from an app where you can quickly swipe through interesting topic to one (on android) where you have to go back and forth all the time. They have listened and added swipe through on the main stories, but not on 'My news' Also hate the fact 'my news' ignores my preferences and presents any stories from my selected topic at the top of the screen, what's the point in users setting an order if it's ignored and I still have to scroll

Terrible July update has damaged the app. The new 'look and feel' is bland & ugly. The previous layout was easy to navigate, but now its awkward and almost empty, with little content. You added lots of local news that I don't want and subtracted national/international news that I do want? It has updated and morphed into a borefest! This is a poor App, with more empty space, less up to date news but plenty of old news, less settings. Waste of space.
