Poweramp is a powerful music player for Android.

Poweramp plays local music files in various formats, including Hi-Res formats.

I've been using PowerAmp for years, but I absolutely dispise the new UI. It's pretty, but painful to use. The biggest problem is that large poster art is shown in all list, so that only 5 songs take up the whole screen. With a few thousand songs in my collection, it takes longer to find the song I'm looking for than before. Plus the cover art takes up so much space that many of my song titles are truncated. You put the song title in the middle of the screen, rather than at the bottom where it was before. This create a number of UI inconsistencies that I find really annoying. For example, when playing a song you have to tap in the middle of the screen to go to the song list. Then to return to the song that is playing you tap on the name again. But if you tap on the name in the middle of the screen the song restarts. You have to tap on the name on the bottom of the screen to return. It really bugs me that there is no way to get to the song line from the bottom of the screen where the rest of the navigation buttons are. In the song list, there used to be a button on the right that pulled up the menu with the enqueue function. Now you have to long presses. Annoying.

I have been using PowerAmp for several years now. (I have the Full unlocked version). I have been very happy with it, but with this last update, I have been experiencing annoying things. Subtle things. One in particular, has been my album cover changing, after several play or rating of music. My work around is to hit the shuffle button and for some reason it brings it back the original cover. No other key works, when it does that. It's a great player with plenty of options.

Been using it for a while now. My preferred music app (only one I know of that lets you choose and limit the folders for scanning). I thought the app was abandoned. I'm glad to know it's still going strong. I'm getting used to the new version. I think I like it! If there's something I'd like to see improved, it would be being able to export individual playlists, and not losing all my playlists everytime I switch sd cards. Also I would like to be able to see the list of all songs in the library, even when playing a playlist (EDIT: found it). Still the best music player out there though!

Fantastic music/audio app. Takes full advantage of my hi-def DAC. I wasn't impressed when it updated to v.3 however all features that were 'lost' have made their way back, and the app is now leagues ahead of where it was. The settings menu is incredibly fleshed out and if you don't like how a certain part of the app works, you can probably change it. The import/export settings option is essential for moving phones and so far I haven't had any issue. Great music player.

I honestly tried to get used to the new UI, but can't seem to adjust to it. It's taken multiple steps backwards in terms of intuitiveness. I loved the ability to swipe up or down to skip albums, but if that option is still available in v3, I can't find a way to enable it. I could live with v3 if this were brought back, as this feature was paramount to me for my long daily commute (I could find whatever I wanted to play without taking my eyes off the road). Now looking to replace this app.

Really the only choice if you need to play all sorts of different audio files types. Was never a big fan of the interface, until now. Version 3 is beautiful, on par with any less featured music app out there when it comes to visuals. Tons of customization options to make sure the app works just how you want it to, options you'd never even think of, they thought of. Only thing this app is missing for me is the ability to manually edit metadata tags for multiple items simultaneously.

v3 is amazing, beautiful, and fully functional. The UI got a much needed update. The v2 UI, menus, and text were beginning to look outdated compared to competitors. Visualizations are a very welcome addition. They are smooth and high-res with lots of options. Visualizations arw almost non-existent these days. Thank you for putting in the time and effort to make v3 what it is.

This was the best audio player in the store up until just 2 days ago. They decided it would be a good idea to completely change the look of the app without allowing the user to go back to the old style. The new style is atrocious. Way too big, feels clunky, and you can't even tap to seek. Instead, you have to drag an abstract representation of the sound waves to seek back forth. Before you could just tap on a line that spanned the entire screen and select where you wanted to listen. Until they allow the use of the legacy style, this gets 1 star from me

The worst UI ever. Why do you think plastering the track info over the album art is a good idea? When I am in folder display and do a search, if I hit the back button, it does not go back to folder display. It goes back to the last track played. And this UI has tons of such inconsistencies. The last version's UI was clean and easy to navigate. This one is just pure garbage and feels like a beta version. Very disappointing that you took a great product and totally messed it up.

For playing music on any Android device, there simply no better app than this. The only annoying thing I've experienced in multiple occasions, is that even though I paid for the app, if you're listening to music in a place where there's no wifi or data connection, after a while the app stops working because without a constant internet connection the license cannot be verified. And then it won't let you play anything until you connect to the internet again. That's annoying if you're in the middle of the road in an rural place where there's no data or wifi connection.

Used to be much better and I would have given 4 stars, but the most recent update is not for me. The new UI is much worse and the different play options don't work right. Seems to be much more focused on looking cool versus functionally, which I feel is more important. Showing album artwork for every song instead of a list is really frustrating. Randomizer is somehow even worse than before, and it wasn't good to begin with. Audio quality is still good and it probably has the best EQ setup.

New UI is terrible. Before you ask what about it I don't like, consider simply that the previous UI had absolutely everything one might need from a premium music player app and was quick and easy to navigate. Now, it's a cluttered mess that looks awful and prevents any sort of quick access to the music/files/settings I had grown accustomed to over the last few years. The absolute worst thing about this update is the removal of separate folder view. I can't sort my music now based on the hierarchy of folders I made, as it all blends together now in a single list. It's so unintuitive and bloated now. If it doesn't get a revert I'm afraid I'll have to finally uninstall after being such a long-time fan.

It's a good app that use to be great. I don't regret paying for the unlocker. However, the last few updates have resulted in multiple negative effects on a brand new s10. Excess power usage and random audio start and stops. The UI is more dramatic, but the app may be a bit bloated. I'd be content with a classic version. Try it out for yourself, it's one of the best android auto music apps.

Licensing of the full version lets it down, maybe there's a setting to stop it, but I've not found it yet. The app contacts the Play servers to check you're licensed, which is great until you're 30000 feet in the sky halfway across the Atlantic at which point you'd better hope you've got an alternative application available, because that's the end of listening to Poweramp. This happens to me all the time, I've search for better apps and I still like Poweramp, but more often than not, I end up unable to use on a trip.

Sound quality is good, and it is a decent music player. But the user interface is very busy and confusing. Also, it splits up all my mix albums (Grammy nominees of 2011, for example) into separate songs because they are by different artists, so I have to put them together into a single playlist manually to play them all as one album. I can't figure out why music players can't get basic functionality correct.

It's obvious a lot of thought and effort went into this compared to other (free) music player apps. The biggest benefit is that it circumvents the well-known, obnoxious bug in Android related to the system media scanner that Google never fixed. The media scanner built into Android frequently has issues and the system database therefore doesn't have a proper record of the music you have added to your device. Most players use the system database and therefore can't find certain files because they don't show up with the proper artist and song title. However, Poweramp uses their own scanner and database so this is a complete non-issue. The scanner was fast, too. It added all ~7400 songs on my device in just a few minutes. The app is also very fast and the UI is nice. Additionally, they have implemented the ability to have the full app accessible over the lock screen which is disabled by default but can be enabled in the options. This is great for the security-minded folks like myself that have a short lock time on their phone and a strong password. I don't need to constantly unlock my phone to change the song or playlist, which is a beautiful thing.

Uninstalled the day after installing it. Using the app seemed ok. But once it was installed, my earbuds stopped working for phone calls. After troubleshooting, Poweramp seemed to be running in the background even when it said it wasn't running. It would also start playing music on its own. Force stopping didn't solve the problem. But once I uninstalled, earbuds started working again as they should for phone and apps. Strange phone takeover.

UPDATED REVIEW: Poweramp pro used to suffer from a fatal flaw, my Playlists would vanish. Tech support advised a simple 15 step process that didn't work. I got mad enough that I uninstalled. Now, after trying many other apps, I'm back. It's fixed, in fact it's better and smoother than it was. AND my playlists are staying where I left them! From one star to five stars. Thanks to the dev team that listened and made this happen. IMHO this is now the best music app for an aficionado.
