Description of NHS App

Owned and run by the NHS, the NHS App is a simple and secure way to access a range of NHS services on your smartphone or tablet.

To use the NHS App you must be aged 13 or over and registered with a GP surgery in England.

You can also access NHS App services from the browser on your desktop or laptop computer. Go to www.nhs.uk/app

Use the NHS App to:

• get your NHS COVID Pass
• get advice about coronavirus
• order your repeat prescriptions
• book and manage appointments at your GP surgery
• get health information and advice
• view your health record securely
• register your organ donation decision
• find out how the NHS uses your data

If your GP surgery or hospital offers other services in the NHS App, you may be able to:

• message your GP surgery, doctor or health professional online
• consult a GP or health professional through an online form and get a reply
• access health services on behalf of someone you care for
• view your hospital and other healthcare appointments
• view useful links your doctor or health professional has shared with you
• view and manage your care plans

Get your NHS COVID Pass

A COVID Pass shows your coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination details or test results. This is your COVID-19 status.

Search trusted NHS information and advice on hundreds of conditions and treatments. You can also answer questions to get instant advice or medical help near you.

View your health record
----------------------------------

Securely access your GP health record, to see information like your allergies and your current and past medicines. If your GP surgery has given you access to your detailed medical record, you can also see information like test results and details of your consultations.

Register your organ donation decision

Choose to donate some or all of your organs and check your registered decision.

Find out how the NHS uses your data

Choose if data from your health records is shared for research and planning.

Keeping your data secure
---------------------------------

After you download the app, you will need to set up an NHS login and prove who you are. The app then securely connects to information from your GP surgery.

If your Android device supports fingerprint, face or iris recognition, you can use it to log in to the NHS App each time, instead of using a password and security code.

Used to work but now when I try to open messages it says cannot open file. Why can't we just view the file in the app. That would be better.

Ordering prescriptions is difficult for those with multiple requirements. Date of last ordered should be indicated as part of selection process. Look at the app from a most wanted requirement and minimize functions getting to it!

So far, this sheep herding app is too unintelligible for a little common sense Sheep like me. It's a kinda self inducing headbanging app. Which can't be good for my head. I'll try again later. Maybe water on my brain might help make sense of it .........

The app has stopped working. That's really useful,not. Now I'm going to have to ring to put in a repeat prescription. The app was good,but now it isn't,and when an app isn't working,it's of no use at all. Please sort it out. People rely on it. Thank you.

Issues with this app. Unable to do anything on app as keeps coming up as error. Uninstall many times. Reinstall many times. No success.

Absolutely garbage. No sync when changing GPs no. Patient history and appointments broken. Everything is circular getting you back to the same stupid menus. How is this an app for a national health service?

Downloaded this app so I wouldn't have to use the shamefully dreadful Systmonline portal to book same day appointments, but it doesn't sync and show new appointments that appear at 8am every day for my surgery.

Told that an update is required but no update option available. Deleted the app but the installer insists it's already installed even though it's not listed in the phone's app list. So now I cannot use it

Test results disappeared! I have previously been able to see test results going back several years. Now only the last 3 are visible. I queried this with my GP who told me nothing had changed and the appropriate tick still in the box on my record. I was advised to uninstall, then reinstall the app, but it made no difference. How can I get these results to display again??

Worse than useless. The only point of the app for me is to connect to my GP. It steadfastly refused to do this. My GP provided the linkage key, ODS code and account ID, but the app just says I'm already connected. Which I'm not, otherwise I wouldn't be trying. It gets most annoyed when I try to sync the email address with the one I used for my GP - why on earth it matters that they're synced I don't know, but it won't work if they aren't. IT and the NHS clearly don't mix.

I've been using the app with no problem until a week ago when it says I need to update before I can continue to use the app. I use the update link given, but it just keeps saying 'pending' and nothing else happens. It won't download update. This now renders the app unusable. Extremely frustrating! My phone is fairly new and fully updated so the problem doesn't lie with this. Please help ?

I was using eConsult as that is what they recommended, absolutely hopeless so am giving this a try as it a complete waste of time trying to get to speak to a real human being at your doctors surgery. Progress more like a move into the dark ages.

I can see messages and able to connect to GP when I first login in to app, but getting not able to connect to GP when I login into app second time. I am already verified with photo ID check. Same issue with wife's account as well.

Uk has a population of 67 million!!! I'm not sure what all the low ratings are about... the app is reassuringly "difficult" to install because it uses the most absolutely confidential information about us that there is! I've had absolutely none of the problems with prescriptions that I used to get filling in those bits of paper at the surgery & the pharmacy have never "not received" my prescription. It's a bit clunky, but hello!!! 67 million users!!

Somebody hasn't done the maths. I order prescriptions every 28 days because I am given 28 days of medication each time (because it is packaged for 28 days). This app doesn't let you order twice in a 30 day period. Surely anyone can realise that eventually I will run out of medication and still not be able order another one.

This app will not let me reset my password, which i cannot remember. Last time I used it was during lockdown and now, when I attempt to reset, it sends me to a something went wronmg page every single time. Really annoying when my surgery say i have to use the app to guarantee easy appointment.

It is an ok app, it does give me all the information about the medications I take and I am able to order individual ones at a time. The only downside is half the time it doesn't message me when it is ready to be collected, so I have to ring the pharmacy instead to see if it's ready so I don't waste my journey to find out it isn't

Stopped working after compulsory update. Actually, I found this latest version also requires a chrome update if using android 8 or 9! That's the fix. And, for NHS Digital - the user still needs latest version of chrome if using that browser!
