Description of BOM Weather

Australia's official weather app from the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM).

Download the BOM Weather app for access to hourly and 7-day forecasts, radar and warnings – wherever you are.

It's free and ad free on mobile and tablet devices, with widgets so you can see the weather at a glance.

The BOM Weather app includes:

Current weather
- Temperature and icon
- 'Feels like' temperature
- Rain
- Wind speed, direction and gust (in knots and km/h)
- Humidity
- Rainfall since 9 am
- Local text forecast

Forecasts
- Hourly forecast temperature, wind, gust, and rain for the next 72 hours
- 7-day forecast
- Total wave height and direction (for relevant locations)
- Sunrise and sunset times
- UV and moon phase
- Fire danger rating
- Waters forecast and summary for the coming days, including tides (for relevant locations)

Rain map
- See rain 90 minutes into the past and future
- Pan and zoom to anywhere in Australia
- Your location is marked on the map
- View optimal radar coverage areas

Warning notifications
- Warning notifications for up to 3 locations around Australia
- Includes notifications for fire weather, flood, heatwave, marine wind, severe thunderstorm, severe weather, tropical cyclone, and tsunami

Ok I find the rain radar past and future totally annoying as the past is irrelevant and the future innacurate. I am back to the web version now as the app is painful. Further Update: there was no bug, it's just an annoying design. Start the radar paused at present then let me hit play.

2020 saw a fresh new look and it just kept improving with past weather and small bug fixes. BUT... since last update, this has plummeted to 0 stars :⁠'⁠( Now all I see is a black and grey screen with no content. Left feedback but no ability to provide screenshots. BOM on my Pixel 6 running Android 14 is completely useless ☹️

Love the App but wish you would provide a key to the icons. Today it just showed a squiggly line icon all day, which I can only assume was meant to mean "windy". I can click on the wind tab if I want to see the wind speed. An explanation of that new wind icon is nowhere to be found online - looks very different to the wind icon on the BOM website. What I really wanted to see was the sun/cloud/rain info. Kept showing no rain even though the radar was clearly showing patches of rain about.

Since the last update, the Rain Radar function no longer works. Even the location is slower to identify "My location " I have now been waiting months for this to be fixed.. and yes, I have done a delete and reinstall, but still no improvement

the interface is designed for kiddies...I need facts, not cartoons. I now have to scroll up, down, & sideways to find the information required, when before I could see what I needed with minimal movement. I've got better things to do then wasting time looking all over this illogical interface.

It's been a year since I asked for the widget to be resizable. I use this app at least twice a day and being able to glance at the weather in a widget is so handy. But unless I can adjust the width I cannot use it. Being able to resize the BOM widget is missing on my new Samsung phone. I'm able to resize other app widgets so I suspect this is app dependent. With screen size and resolution changes, this is a feature that will be appreciated. I still love this and use it multiple times a day.

I've always relied upon the BOM, and especially it's live rain radar to determine daily events, transport requirements etc, but since the last update, the app crashes everytime I open the rain radar. And it appears I'm not the only user experiencing this... Very frustrating indeed..! BOM... Please fix!!

Since the recent update, I can no longer see the expected temperatures for the upcoming days ahead. Which is annoying when planning school holiday outings, hiking and camping. Will see if there is something better out there.

It's great to have the BOM Weather app on my mobile because it automatically recognises where I am & gives me the weather outlook for the day, & the coming week. This helps me to plan my day/week according to whether it's going to rain or be very windy. It also gives severe weather warnings for my local area. These warnings are sometimes downgraded or upgraded hourly, which shows that the BOM peeps work in real time. Info on the moon is also great. This update is now running smoothly.❤️

Was the Only weather app worth having But since has fallen dreadfully A new feature of the app is "past" which basically gives you a history of the days temperature wind speed rain, that type of thing, only it's up the creek On several days, during the day l have checked the temperature at the time, with say the current temperature at that point in time saying it was 21° (example) only 6-7 hours later the past record saying the highest temperature recorded for the day, being 14°what to believe?

I'm really not sure what everyone is going on about with the rain radar crashing their app. I'm on a relatively old phone now (S10+) and I have never had the crashing issue. My app is completely up to date and still doesn't crash when opening the radar. Giving a 4 star though because the app more or less freezes for a few seconds trying to bring up "past" stats (dunno why it's such a resource intensive task to freeze the app for a few seconds), also there's no synoptic charts on the app either.

Who is writing the code for this app? Seriously it's 2.1 GB it's too big. It needs a massive rewrite. Now starting to cause OneDrive to fail Thanks 👍 for the response it isn't just the cache not clearing it's the user data. I deleted and reinstalled the app and without moving to a different location checked the weather repeatedly. The user data grows faster than the cache. I advise going back to an earlier version as it also now shows instability of location data bad software engineering IMO

App is great especially for free with no ads. Probably going to stop paying for ad free weatherzone and use this instead. Only thing I'd like to see improved is the widgets. Can one be made with a transparent background so it looks cleaner (or if not at least have a dark background for phones in dark mode).

I agree with previous comments. I've used this app for many years and have always been happy, however now the app closes when the radar is selected. I'm sure an update is just around the corner 🙂 28/8..... yay the radar is back and working 👍👍

Since last update rain radar crashes as soon as it opens. Never had any problems before. Thank you, I updated it didn't work , so uninstalled and reinstalled. Now all good. Sorry for late reply.

I appreciate the ongoing efforts to improve the app, and I do think it's improving. I find it easy to navigate and, now that the radar crash issue has been fixed, very solid and reliable

App has not worked for last few days just blank screens. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, still not working. Bring back the original app, at least that made sense and was functional. Note, i AM using latest version after reinstalling several times, it still appears as blank squares quite often, then works occasionally . Since pisting this review many months ago, nothing has improved. I have uninstalled and reinstalled (supposedly latest versions) and still i cannot rely on this app to work.

Once temp data is displayed and rain is selected at the bottom of screen the radar map displays the default res of 12km, shows the location marker then after a few seconds shuts down & defaults to the home screen. This behaviour started on 04 May and still persists. In the 7dy forcast area some data is superimposed becoming garbled. Both behaviours are frustrating to say the least. As a last resort I did try reinstalling the app and behold, success. Thanx.✔️
