Description of Google Maps Go

Google Maps Go is the lightweight Progressive Web App variation of the original Google Maps app.

This version requires Chrome (if you do not wish to install Chrome, please use www.google.com/maps in your browser instead).

Taking up 100 times less space on your device than the full Google Maps app, Google Maps Go is designed to run smoothly on devices with limited memory and on unreliable networks without compromising speed to provide your location, real-time traffic updates, directions, and train, bus, and city transit information. The only thing I REALLY don't like is that it gives you directions without the option of a different route or the ability to tap on a street and get directions that way. It forces you to go their way

Very annoyed you can no longer navigate with maps but you damn sure get plenty of adds. To bad, it was a pretty decent app before. Just like Motorola, they got greedy and lost their quality along the way. When are companies going to learn, when you are doing pretty good don't try to cheapen the product or service. America is watching and we will notice. It always costs them more than they gain

I have been using the app for years, to plan journeys and day to day travel. For some reason Buses I use frequently have now disappeared completely. These are still running, I'm sat on one right now. For some they have disappeared and I and now running late for a hospital appointment and I am blaming Google for this. Please fix.

I'm not sure what happened to their algorithm but their estimated traffic and ETAs consistently make me late. Edit: this app is completely unusable. I have calibrated over and over and it cannot locate my location despite being hooked up to wifi and on high accuracy location setting. This is ridiculous. Edit: still completely unusable, can't even type in the box without the app completely wigging out and doubling all the letters and words.

Very easy to use, just gets you from A to B without all the extras. You still get route and time options on the go, and a simplified map, hence the data saving. It also seems to draw less power than the full Google Maps, so my phone will fully charge whilst using it. It hasn't let ne down yet abd I have a seven year old Sony phone.

It is definitely not user-friendly. I am going to uninstall it after I make this comment. I WANT the other Google maps app which I cannot now find on my apps list in all 3 locations.. However, playstore says I have it. It is not there. So I am going to uninstall it from the phone through the Play Store and reinstall it through Play Store. I hope it works. But this is an example of what happens every time Google does an upgrade. That Google Maps GO is awful.

There is no worse than this. 1st, the direction window stops following the GPS' pointer. Everytime the driver should put finger on the screen to find the pointer. 2nd, the window is highly zoom-out. Again the driver should zoom-in to find-out exactly where he/she goes. These can distract the driver and cause sever accidents. 3rd, sometimes, getting directions gives us wrong starting point (different country--UK). Perhaps it receives the location where the Google server exists.

I getting my search results I a language that I can't read and it's not in my list of preferred languages. I have tried selecting one of my selected languages it still give results in that language, I removed catch and data but it still shows. How can I permanently revert to English. Map locations sometimes say Kempton park even when I'm in Durban. Automatic and manual updates regular.

cant add marks other than star... cant hide places that open in the bottom half of the screen which makes navigation with one hand impossible... seems a be a strange cross breed between google chrome and maps, which makes the settings experiance sub par... other than that it seems to work okay.... i would have the search bar on the bottom though to make navigation more accessible ...

I installed this in June 2023 and what 💩 it's so basic I ended up uninstalling after trying it out. Even the proper Google Maps is pathetic they keep updating the App things only get worse not better. Where houses have been for a few years still see fields. I do not use much at all, partner has a built-in satnav in the car. I was thinking of trying Waze that actually tells you about road accidents etc Just because Google puts these in doesn't mean I have to keep updating all pointless!!

Runs in chrome, which sucks. I can't use offline maps from the original maps app or otherwise. What they really ought to do is instead of making the original maps app so labor intensive and shoving ads down your throat by default, either A. just make a second, more efficient version of the original while retaining functionality, or B. make suggestions and fancy graphics toggle able from settings of the original maps.

The new updated maps doesnt work when im driving a truck when its on the seat, only when its upright on the phone holder. I have the same issues on different phones so its definitely something to do with the update. It works fine in any position when i use it in my car. With the old software it works fine. I deleted cache and other data but problem persists and its been going on for months. Please can you fix this issue. Thanks

It took a long time for the app to load and what more disappointing is that for you to be able to do a navigation, you have to download the somewhat add-on app navigation go for it to work. it would be more great if they make it one and compress the file size so it wont be difficult to users to download two seperate apps to make it all work.

Definitely going to be uninstalling! This was one of the many, "pre- installed" apps that came on my phone. I was all for its, "smaller app, so low amount of storage used" and the " 'lite' 'go' saves you data".... that would be great, if you could actually use the app when you really need it!! It never said anything about the route, nor brought up the map to get to the destination!! It wouldn't even let me use the official Google Maps, it would take me back to this one, that doesn't work!

Extremely frustrating and terrible. Can't get directions, crashes all the time. Refuses to send location because GPS is "off" when it's actually on. Absolutely useless just go with the original Maps. That's much more worthwhile. Wish I could uninstall, but unfortunately I have the stupid Android Go operating system so I can't 🙄.

I see that this app works fast on my mobile phone, so it is very lightweight. However, it cannot download maps as you can do with Google Maps, so it should be similar to Waze. As it seems to consume more mobile data compared with Google Maps, I haven't used it and thus I have uninstalled it. If you have a good network connection all the time (for example if you are not traveling between cities and towns), it can be useful.

Definitely the worst out of the lite apps that come with Android Go. There's absolutely no reason to have this app in the first place because 9/10 people only use Google Maps for navigation, which is a feature that lives in another app for whatever reason. The fact that it runs on chrome is also another thing that pisses me off. Not everyone wants to use Chrome and just because I do, doesn't mean I'm fine with using a half-baked web app that shows up on my home screen.
