Description of SkyView® Lite

You don't need to be an astronomer to find stars or constellations in the sky, just open SkyView® Free and let it guide you to their location and identify them. SkyView Free is a beautiful and intuitive stargazing app that uses your camera to precisely spot and identify celestial objects in sky, day or night. Find popular constellations as they fade in and out while you scan across the sky, locate planets in our solar system, discover distant galaxies, and witness satellite fly-bys.

***Google Editor's Choice 2017***

Features:

• Simple: Point your device at the sky to identify galaxies, stars, constellations, planets, and satellites (including the ISS and Hubble) passing overhead at your location.
• Night Mode: Preserve your night vision with red or green night mode filters.
• Augmented Reality (AR): Use your camera to spot objects in the sky, day or night.
• Sky Paths: Follow the sky track for any object to see it’s exact location in the sky on any date and time.
• Time Travel: Jump to the future or the past and see the sky on different dates and times.
• Social: Capture and share beautiful images with friends and family on social networks.
• Mobile: WiFi is NOT required (does not require a data signal or GPS to function). Take it camping, boating, or even flying!
• Supports Space Navigator™ binoculars, spotting scope, and telescopes.

What a fun way to teach yourself, your children, your students, or your friends about our wonderful universe!

The app would be great except... there is no option to move it to external storage (SD card). I don't understand why some devs don't provide that option for their apps. Phone internal storage memory is precious. When given a choice between two similar apps, that is a dealbreaker for me. Uninstallled for that reason. :-/

I love this very useful app. What I liked about it was that was precise in the part of the sky I pointed to, that I can check the sky on whichever date I want to. Since past few months the view keeps jumping around on its own, even if I havent moved my phone and my phone is calibrated and it is snugly held. Please fix this issue, and it is a 5 star app.

Great app!!! I use it multiple times a week to identify stars and constellations. Very accurate, just point at the sky and it matches the astronomy. It even shows what you can't see that's below the horizon. So far i have only used the free version but will upgrade because they deserve it for making such an accurate map of the sky and I haven't experienced any issues.

Edited my review after I paid 2 bucks for the "full" version. To my surprise, there is a significant marging of error, in terms of location of planets, from the lite free version to the full one. The moon made it clear how off the lite app is. And then the paid version isn't as exact neither. Currently looking for another app.

Used to love this app, but not it doesn't lineup properly (the moon is way off the mark) and doesn't look as accurate as it used to be. Trying to find Orion where I can see it, and it's showing me cancer. Have tried recalibrating the compass but it does work.

Pretty app. Like the "point and identify" feature. The music adds ambience. Would really like it if it functioned. Of the last 10 times it's been opened only 5 times actually identified objects in the sky. The other times played the music to a locked and static picture of the Milky Way. 50% function is pretty poor and very frustrating

To learn planets, constellations, galaxies etc. The free version is fantastic! I live due east in the mountains and have learned so much just from the free app. I'm considering upgrading to get meteor/comet other information needed to view this wonder called our universe.

Very good for a free app, however I wonder if there's any "manual move" option to be implemented (or is it in the paid version), for the cases when you can't rely on the magnetic sensor and you want to move the view by drag - one sub-option to also disable the acc. sensor so full manual control (for exploring without rotating yourself), another just the magnetic one, for a manual magnetic-lock type.

I got a pair of binoculars as a gift and this app (recommendation) was included in the package. Using it with the mount is in need of greater calibration as images are (sometimes) way off but, overall, I love this app!! I'm pretty sure I used to have the "pro" version when I first used the link provided, however, the free version that I now have is great for casual viewing. For satellites and the ISS I use a website that allows you to plan viewings ahead of time. ****

It seems to have a complete map of the sky but the display constantly follows the phone even after I reset the phone's compass. Impossible to point at many areas of the sky. Stellarium app is better, stable, and had time simulation to prepare oneself before stargazing

Oh my god i love this app, it's just so cool seeing all the constellations and planets, and it really helps with stargazing. one issue: the placement is slightly off, earlier i saw the moon without the app, then looked at the app and found it was not in the same place. Obvi ik it can't be super accurate, but could it be fixed?

This is a good app but it could be so much better. The location is totally off. I've double checked the coordinates and they're totally wrong. Hundreds of miles away. I've tried setting my location manually but you can't input coordinates. If I set location automatically or manually it's still totally off and I have to reset the location every time I open the app.

Totally sufficient for a free stargazing app. Sure the augmented reality view is a little off sometimes but it is still great to use as a reference. Example the Moon is a little to the left, so if you're looking for Mars check for it further to the left in relation to the moon. Also be careful when upgrading! It installs a separate upgraded app, so don't repeatedly press on 'skyview free' and get frustrated when nothing new shows up. Like I did.

SKYVIEW - EXPLORE THE UNIVERSE is an excellent tool for learning about the astronomical universe. It is similar in many ways to other astronomy apps available, but its ability to search for an object and its overlay of objects on your personal camera view are neat features, as is the inclusion of man-made satellites and their histories. It can be hard to adapt to the app's controls at first, but once you get used to how to move your device, the app is very powerful and exciting....

What a superb app! I have tried many apps similar to this however this one beats them all hands down. It's uncluttered menu system; fresh, incredibly beautiful graphics; subtle music (that you CAN turn off-watch and learn other app developers) and general ease of use. I use it most evenings and in the UK we have a lot of cloud cover so this app is invaluable. I cannot recommend this app highly enough. Great work all involved.

At first this seemed helpful when identifying a particularly bright star however when I moved the phone 90° the same view kept swinging round. Sometimes I didn't know which was correct and sometimes, (due to the position of the Moon), O could see that it couldn't be right. I recently calibrated my phone for another app so sadly I might as well uninstall this. On the positives, nthe settings are really easy to use to choose whether to have music or the art etc.

I had the full version on an old S7 and it was great, unfortunately it did not work on my S10 so I looked for the update only to find I would have to purchase a new license (not cool). I downloaded the lite version to check it out and I am glad I did, it is abysmal, the moon and planets are many degrees shifted from where they should be, therefore I would say that this app is not working properly and should be avoided at all costs. Shame I had to even give it 1 star.

Interesting but inaccurate. After calibration, it quickly auto-adjusts so that what you are looking at seems further to the right than in reality. As long as you don't mind pointing to the left of what you want information on, then this is the app for you! Calibration is hard work when you need to do it every ten to fifteen seconds to maintain accuracy.
