Description of Stellarium Mobile - Star Map

Stellarium Mobile - Star Map is a planetarium app that shows exactly what you see when you look up at the stars.

Identify stars, constellations, planets, comets, satellites (such as the ISS), and other deep sky objects in real time in the sky above you in just a few seconds, just by pointing the phone at the sky!

This astronomy application has an easy to use and minimalist user interface, that makes it one of the best astronomical applications for adults and children who want to explore the night sky.

Stellarium Mobile features:

★ View an accurate night sky simulation of stars and planets for any date, time and location.

★ Dive in a collection of many stars, nebulas, galaxies, star clusters and other deep sky objects.

★ Zoom on realistic Milky Way and Deep Sky Objects images.

★ Discover how people living in other regions of the planet see the stars by selecting the shapes and illustrations of the constellations for many sky cultures.

★ Track artificial satellites, including the International Space Station.

★ Simulate landscape and atmosphere with realistic sunrise, sunset and atmosphere refraction.

★ Discover 3D rendering of the major solar system planets and their satellites.

★ Observe the sky in night mode (red) to preserve your eyes adaptation to darkness.

Stellarium Mobile contains in-app purchases allowing to upgrade to Stellarium Plus. With this upgrade, the app will display objects as faint as magnitude 22 (versus magnitude 8 in the base version) and enable advanced observing features.

Stellarium Plus features (unlocked with in-app purchase):

★ Reach the limit of knowledge by diving in a massive collection of stars, nebulas, galaxies, star clusters and other deep sky objects:
  • All known stars: Gaia DR2 catalog of over 1.69 billion stars
  • All known planets, natural satellites and comets, and many other minor solar system objects (10k asteroids)
  • Most known deep sky objects: a combined catalog of over 2 million nebulas and galaxies

★ Zoom almost without limits on high resolution images of deep sky objects or planetary surfaces.

★ Observe in the field, even without internet connection, with a "reduced" set of data: 2 million stars, 2 million Deep Sky Objects, 10k asteroids.

★ Control your telescope through Bluetooth or WIFI: drive any GOTO telescope compatible with NexStar, SynScan or LX200 protocols.

★ Prepare your observing sessions using the advanced observation tools, to predict a celestial object observability and transit times.

It works well except telescope control is flaky. It continually disconnects and restarts the app - probably because I have an older phone with 3GB RAM and this app uses quite a bit. It works much better if I make sure I have no other apps running that use a lot of memory. Also, this app's constant requests that I rate it on the Play Store have become really annoying. I have the paid version which is required for the telescope control feature.

I love it from my simplistic perspective. 'wasn't looking for app-types as this but I do think that it would be pointless to search for Stellarium's comparison. Maybe its it's look and feel to my color deficient eyes, nah. It is that plus its proven accuracy of coordinates when night tromping through the woods and its precision with labeling stars, celestial bodies, satellites, constellations...against what I've learned from my basic love-for-nature education of fifty-one years. PS: get it!

Just Amazing! I had a telescope when I was a kid and loved looking up at the stars... Back then it was easier to do because we had a mountain on one side of the city and a undeveloped mesa on the other... Where I live now, there are too many trees and too many city lights to truely see... This app makes me think that maybe I should go on an adventure to find a new perfect spot... Bravo! 🌜⭐🌛🌌

No the app constantly pops up a menu telling me calibration is that 50%. I have tried everything. Standing in the middle of a field with no metal objects, phone case off of my phone doing figure eights for like 30 minutes combined looking like a dumbass everywhere I go trying to use this app but the notification constantly keeps popping up when I try to use it. It didn't do this until I updated. Samsung Galaxy S8...woot woot. The app seems to be really nice up until this issue.

Inaccurate when pointing phone up. When I first downloaded the app I was sitting outside a bigger town waiting for a family member and everything was great. When I got home to my smaller town (13,000 people) everything is way off. Can't point directly at a constellation or a planet, it's all off to the upper left a bit. Super annoying, glad I didn't upgrade to the paid version.

Most apps are garbage. This one is not. My knowledge of the night sky has increased 10 fold in the last 6 months thanks to Stellarium. The constellations are so obvious to identify with the aid of this tool. And once you know where and what to look for, you never forget! They're that beautiful! The night sky is sublime and truly something to behold. Thanks Stellarium!

This app is amazing! Tracking can be a bit hard but also part of the fun when searching. Its the galaxy at your fingertips! Great for any amateur astronomer. You learn a lot thanks to all the information provided. I appreciate the different landscape options, sattelite tracking, and ability to choose which culture to view- since every culture (past and present) has their own constellation names. Seriously considering upgrading just to support them and encourage more updates/additions!

Upgraded to the pro version and I am mostly happy with this app. However, there is one disappointing difference from the mobile vs PC version: limited equipment settings. The main reason I use this app is to plan astrophotography shoots. This is difficult to do when you do know the exact FOV off the top of your head for every setup (not to mention the fov is limited by arc minutes). On PC this is no issue as I can select my camera, telescope, etc. For $20 I think it is fair to improve this

Outstanding!! Truly wonderful eye candy and awesome user interface. It'll take you where no person has gone before. They've included plenty of scientific space information at the tap of your finger. You really should download it and be impressed. The ONLY reason it didn't get 5 stars is that the magnet in my phone case entirely disrupts the compass calibration. I know, it's the fault of my case and I'm being selfish, pouting, entitled, but I like case, I'd give it 6 stars if not for that, ha.

Just about the best you could ask for in a free app. Similar to the desktop version but without all the high quality textures and options, it works well when searching for objects and learning about what's what in the sky. The search function is awesome, and with the premium upgrade this is definitively the best stargazing companion app there is.

Works well, but light pollution settings are slightly off. Really like all the features and works good for finding things like the ISS, I got to watch it pass over me. Could also add an "Always show" list so you can always see certain objects you put on the list. Edit: Found some what I believe to be graphical glitches, which consists of random blue/orange lines and dots, don't know what caused them but I have screenshots

I've tried several astronomy apps. So far, I've found this the most complete and accurate of the free apps I've tried. I haven't tried any of the paid options. (I have not been too active with my astronomy interest lately. If I get back into it, I would definitely consider paying for the extras.) I've used the Windows desktop version and enjoyed it for years. It came with the nice telescope my in-laws bought my son. The desktop and Android versions are wonderful apps. I definitely recommend!

9-26-2022: Though this app was useful for a while, some "updates" to it have wrecked it. In essence, if I'm looking at something and raise my phone up, it suddenly changes its view, which is distracting and upsetting. What's worse is that I don't know of any way to change it back once that happens, which in turn has made it useless. I haven't uninstall it, yet. To the developers: Either quit adding these un-asked for bells and whistles, or explain clearly how to deactivate them.

Nothing beats the real stars, of course, but this app is excellent for virtual stargazing indoors or in cloudy weather, or if you can't get away from light pollution. It provides the positions of the stars, planets, and other visible sky features. It defaults to real time and current location, but is settable. It is also an excellent educational tool for learning the constellations according to various cultures. Highly recommended.

Five stars for having the most intuitive calibration ever. If you simply point your phone skyward after manually panning around it will sync back to view tracking. Feels good when things work so right. Searching the sky catalog goes well too, giving some info about general viewing times. The interface overall is very minimal and there's no struggle to turn features on or off at a whim.

Amazing! Visibility in my area, although limited, is better than one would think. I love this app, especially information on satellites. I do not own a telescope, the sizes within my budget could look suspicious, as if spying on my neighbors. I enjoy laying on the grass and looking up at the stars, and learning. I am 60, never too late to learn.

I have used the free PC based version of this for many years. Great program. This android version works much the same way but targeted at a smart phone UI. It has a calendar function to see upcoming events in the coming days which is really handy. You can see a list of thing happening just tonight including the satelight passes. There is tons of stars in the database. It is a mature program.

What a wonderful app! Have spent way more time on here looking at the stars and learning a lot of new things. Love that there are many different sky charts relating to different people and different times. Like that that you can 'freeze' the map to look and search better. Great, great app!!!
