Description of Japanese Kanji Study

Kanji Study aims to be a helpful and easy-to-use tool for learning Japanese kanji. The app includes SRS, flashcards, multiple choice quizzes, writing challenges, kanji and word search, custom sets and much more. Kanji Study hopes to be your essential companion for mastering kanji.

The app is not entirely free; however, the free version has no ads and offers unlimited study of beginner kanji, radicals, hiragana and katakana. The dictionary and all info screens are also free and unrestricted. The one-time upgrade unlocks the remaining kanji levels and allows you to create your own custom sets. It also supports the continued development of this project.

Purchased this app a few years ago, then lost access to my old google account and, immediately after making a new one, purchased it again. This app has been my constant companion in terms of learning hiragana, katakana, and kanji. It makes a huge, huge difference in terms of being able to fit in practice wherever I can. And being able to pay a one time purchase fee for the app itself is a relief in this world of monthly/annual subscriptions. Highly, highly recommend it!!

This app is perfect for me. While it only focuses on individual kanji, and so you won't be able to learn more complex compounds, it's a lot better than being thrown into trying to memorize such compounds as some other apps do. It isn't enough by itself to learn to speak or understand Japanese, but it is great for breaking down the kanji to make them easier to remember. Best of all, no ads and it only costs $12 or so to unlock all the learning sets.

I studied the first 80 kanji and upgraded. I have no regrets. The way the characters are organized is ideal for my style of study. Stroke # and order is a plus and so are the flashcards and quizzes. I have studied independently for the past few years and had not retained as much as I have now. Utilizing this app alongside the Genki textbooks, I feel like I'm finally gaining some momentum. Thank you! I recommend this app highly.

Before the recent update, I thought this was an amazing tool for learning Kanji, with an intuitive GUI, amazing database, and really good quizzes. Since the recent update, it's gotten even better, with seamless integrations with a variety other resources (most helpful so far is easy Anki exports). Some features can only be accessed in the paid version, but honestly this is one of those apps where I wanted to pay money. I'm really grateful for the care and hard work the developers put it into it.

This app is very great for trying to study and learn new Kanji, you also have options in what order and according to what system you want to learn it by, so its not just for a small group of people but for everyone to try out and see if they like it. I also really like the drawing of the Kanji because it helps you remember stroke order and patterns with it, it also helps you keep the characters in your head for a while since there is a lot of interaction.

Incredibly flexible quiz and flashcard system. If I want to slow down or focus on one thing at a time, I can choose to test myself on just meanings or pronunciation, then study them together as I improve. The study unit structure is also amazing. I personally use the option that the Japanese Ministry of Education suggests for actual students in Japan. It makes much more sense than all those other language apps that just slap together vocabulary and phrases and don't actually teach the language.

No ads, even when free. So that's a big plus. But after I saw just how well done this app is, and how thorough, I went and bought it. I like it how you can study in multiple choice, or flashcards. And it even draws out kanji as you go. Plus it's for kana too (and it provides audio too)! I could go on and on about how amazingly well done this app is. If you're learning Japanese, this is a must-have!

A super helpful app that I use with Duolingo to help me with kanji. It teaches proper stroke order and helps with handwriting. I paid for ths upgrade, which gives some nice extra features but isn't necessary, because it was helpful when I was in a physical class. Overall great experience, lots of stuff for free, and a reasonable price considering it's one-time.

I love this app so much. First off, it doesn't have bright or annoying colors; everything is organized and professional while remaining relaxed. It may seem a little confusing at first, but once you get to know how to navigate the app, there's SO MUCH INFO you can get as a learner without paying! It offers so much, and I haven't gotten any ads or bothers at all! You can even see the Kanji readings in different fonts, and what they mean. Overall really good for any learner! Tysm! <3

Makes practicing writing kanji much easier, and that alone justified paying to unlock the full app for me. I just think the icons could be easier to associate with their functions and there could be more information for how to get the absolute most out of the app in terms of study. It's a bit overwhelming to figure out how to use it fully so I really just use it to handwrite kanji cleanly and supplement my other forms of study but I think I'm missing out on the app's full potential.

Best kanji studying app I've seen! I always have trouble remembering what each kanji means, so the ability to break it down into the radicals (smaller parts that compose each kanji) helps me a lot in making a connection between the composition of the kanji and its meaning. Plus, the UI is very aesthetically pleasing, and easy to understand. I really recommend this for anyone who wants to improve their understanding of kanji!

There is a lot of really good stuff here, I have the full paid version and my only real complaint is that the kanji are only ever studied individually with the writing feature. Would be really nice to have the words with multiple kanji available with this feature but it really is the only thing. There are lots of fantastic things other than that like the different kinds of quizzes, the flashcards that can be used in the app or added to Anki, the in depth look into kanji , etc.

The best surprise I've ever run across in an app. Impressively thorough with meanings, readings, grammar notes, and usage examples. Easy to navigate and well organized, super customizable, and has plenty of ways to practice and learn. Even includes an extensive, searchable Japanese/English dictionary. Well worth the money to unlock all characters. I literally cannot recommend this app enough.

This app is amazing for studying kanji. I'm only a beginner, so I haven't bought the remaining kanji sets or the extra lessons (advanced learners may want more), but I have found the study tools to be easy and effective to use. The different study modes are so helpful for different phases of learning, and I like how customizable it is - I can turn features on and off as needed. It is also easy to pick and choose what sets to study. Definitely will buy the upgrade when I get the chance.

Kanji study is a great app, admittedly a little difficult to navigate at first, but if you keep to the basics and expand as needed then it has so much to offer! I currently only have the beginner set (up to 80 kanji, I believe) and that's already incredibly immersive. I can still access other kanji too, they're just not included in my personalized learning routine. I will definitely be upgrading to the paid version so I can continue learning more!

Absolutely love this app! I've had it for years, and it's even better now. The fact that I can practice writing the kanji in addition to memorization is a major boon. I only have 1 complaint which keeps me from saying "5 stars! Every learner, get this!" There is no way to set up specified vocabulary studies. Example: Multi-kanji word studying. When you study a kanji, it can give common words, or any word. You don't need to learn every word with 車 in it at one time. Other than that, the best.

This app is SO great! Take my money! I've been looking for something like this. It's thoroughly designed. My only critique would be that I'd like to be able to listen to prononciations at the push of a button. Currently, I have to outsource this to Gppgle Translate. Neumonics to help memorize would also be a wonderful feature. Overall, great job on the app!

I haven't paid to upgrade the app to the full version, but I have found even the free features to be quite valuable. I downloaded it primarily to learn the correct stroke orders for kana, but I ended up spending even more time on radicals and kanji. Learning to actually write the characters has significantly improved my ability to recognize and distinguish them compared to only using the multiple-choice and keyboard entry questions offered by a certain free language course featuring a green owl.
