Description of Loóna: Bedtime Calm & Sleep

WHAT IS LOÓNA?
Loóna is the first app that lets you take care of your mind and body wellness with the help of interactive coloring sessions, breathing exercises, positive affirmations, meditation, relaxing sleep games, and bedtime stories, all accompanied by soothing relax melodies to get you in the right mood to sleep soundly.

SO, IT'S ANOTHER APP TO HELP YOU FALL ASLEEP FAST, RIGHT?
Not exactly. Loóna isn’t a list of direct "go-to-sleep" techniques, but rather a soothing pod or mood-altering app. Stay calm during the day by listening to ocean waves, wind sounds, and other relax melodies and prepare yourself to fall asleep easily in the evening with the help of sleepscape, bedtime stories and coloring and soothing sounds.

WHY IS BEDTIME MOOD IMPORTANT?
Negative emotions we accumulate during the day are processed and consolidated by our brain during sleep making them more difficult to disassociate from when faced again in the future. Moreover, feeling angry, anxious, down, or, the opposite, excited, and elated, is likely to affect latencies to sleep onset and REM-sleep. People mistake it for the symptoms of a sleep disorder, but in reality, they just may be in the wrong mood to sleep well.

HOW DOES LOÓNA WORK?
From the wake up and during the busy day Loóna will support your emotional states with playlists and immersive stories. Each night you’ll have a recommended escape. An escape is a guided session that bundles together CBT, activity-based relaxation, storytelling and sleep sounds in a unique way. Complete it by stepping into the soothing pod to shut the frantic world out, relieve anxiety, reset your mind, and create the perfect mood. Complete it by stepping into the soothing pod to shut the frantic world out, relieve anxiety, reset your mind, and create the perfect mood for sleep. Focus on calming activities to stop ruminating and quiet your racing thoughts.

DOES IT BEAT INSOMNIA?
87% of Loóna users reported improvement in sleep quality after 14 days of use. Escape sessions help users beat insomnia and fall asleep fast.
IS IT DIFFERENT FROM SLEEP MEDITATION?
Mastering sleep meditation techniques requires a lot of patience and time. Starting your Loóna journey is as easy as playing a relaxing game for just 15 minutes a day.

CAN I USE A PHONE BEFORE BED?
Loóna uses dimmer, warmer colors that are less likely to suppress melatonin. While the session of coloring itself has been shown to have a calming effect and can help reduce stress and anxiety, which can also improve sleep quality and eventually beat insomnia. Additionally, focusing on coloring can help distract your mind from the stresses of the day and promote a sense of mindfulness and relaxation.

Incorporating Loóna into a bedtime routine helps decrease time spent on scrolling social networks. Because scrolling social networks before bedtime exposes you to bright screens and blue light, which can suppress melatonin production and interfere with your sleep-wake cycle.

What do you get:
- 70+ interactive sleepscape journeys and relaxing games for sleeping
- immersive bedtime stories for adults
- calm down or focus with relax melodies
- nature sounds including rain sounds and ocean waves, wind, brown noise or white noise and for tinnitus relief
- lullabies to help you put your kids to bed
- breathing exercises
- gentle alarm clock
- affirmations and motivational quotes

I love the concept of the game and having to wait, it demonstrates a certain kind of patience I barely possess. HOWEVER, the game freezes from time to time, forcing me to restart the app and, consequently, the map. There also is a glitch with the saving feature. I saved, closed, and came back and it made me restart. I have a screencap where it says 35% complete, but the whole map is still gray.

This would get a full five stars from me - the music is great, the sleepscapes are a perfect way to calm myself down before bed. Even the alarm is great!... ...when it works. Unfortunately for reasons I can't work out, the alarm is wildly inconsistent. Some days it'll start the wake up process precisely on the time I've set, and sometimes about ten minutes after, but sometimes it'll fail to go off altogether. Good overall, though, just needs a better alarm.

The app idea is the best. Great graphics, stories, sounds. Had technical difficulties and was disappointed by the response. Unless i sent a screencast, they couldn't help me i guess. I couldn't do that, so no subscription. I might try a month subscription to see if they can fix my issue. I really like the app, if it will work properly.

It's extremely good for relaxing and going to sleep along with staying asleep. Everything from the music to landscapes and sounds they play. It's all great. The only issue I have with the app is that it occasionally crashes through the sleepscape episodes and I have to start completely over on the episode when this happens. Perhaps adding a automatic saving mechanic would do well for it. I also found that after some time away from the app it had logged me out and restarted progress as well.

So disappointed. I loved the music the way it was. Now the same song repeats over and over which defeats the purpose of trying to relax and enjoy different sounds when you have to look the phone to manually change the tracks. Before you could choose whether to repeat or not. I liked being able to choose which type of sounds I wanted too. From the fb group, it seems like some others have the same thoughts.

I've used this app off and on for about six months. When I give myself the time, doing a loona sleepscape or two will always make me tired enough to go to sleep, even on anxiety-riddled nights. The more often I use it, the better it works, tho I'm not great at remembering. I love the "immersive stories" for when my eyes are too tired to look at a screen, too. My only qualm is that sometimes the background music plays over the sound from the sleepscape or story; restarting the app fixes it tho!

Great concept, but very poorly executed. Music is peaceful, the dialogue attempts to tell you a bedtime story. The art/puzzle is a bit awkward - some pieces are very easy to find, but some are quite difficult because the pieces aren't all well outlined. And not free, at all. Sleep sounds appear to be free, but you can find more variety elsewhere if that's your goal. For the sleepscapes, it is a monthly sub, and in my opinion this game would work better as packaged, one-time purchases instead.

Highly effective. I find my deep sleep time has more than doubled. Does the soundtrack use entrainment tones? Update and request. I found the most recent sleepscape really aversive and I don't think I can skip it. I'd like that option. Update 2. I cannot use this app if I can't skip an experience I don't want to do. I will be canceling my subscription.

Love the little scenes and the aspect of coloring them into " life". Beautiful. And the music is relaxing. Really helps me get to sleep. The only bad thing is that it stopped working after the first few times I used it. Most of the time it won't load and it says network error and I can't download any of the sleepscapes. It also stops working and I have to close the app and it still won't work after restarting app or phone. I paid for the app for the year and it just won't work.

While loóna is a perfectly acceptable calmness app, there are a few "little things" that annoy me, taking me out of that calm place. The inability to turn off the menu music, and the fact that they seem to have removed my favorite music tracks/album from the list (as well as removing the "albums" and replacing it with just a list of songs) are the two major ones at the moment. If you don't mind listening to the same song every time you open the app, it's fine i suppose.

"in app purchases" means the entire thing costs money. You take a nice little survey to customize your dreamscape, then you get the one free one (not customized) and after that you have to upgrade to "plus." It's not really an upgrade if you have nothing to begin with... I enjoyed the first one enough to want to try a few more, but definitely not enough to pay for it. Might as well go get a free coloring app and listen to an audiobook instead.

The sample on the app was great. Super calming. I loved it. Unfortunately, there's only one sample and I cannot afford the subscription. I would definitely use an ad supported version! I understand not wanting the ads to become annoying, but maybe make the ad optional B4 the sleepscape as a way to "pay" for them individually? It would be my choice at that point and I would end with the calming portion 💜 hope to be able to use this in the future, but uninstalling for now.

For the price, I should really be able to pick which sleepscapes I can do with premium and when. I swear they put the ones you say you'd like towards the back. It'd make more sense if you had to their order in the free version, and premium unlocked them all. Doing one didn't really entice me to pay $40, but I decided to try a few more with the trial. I would have done premium if I could pick ones I could do, but seeing I can't made me cancel the trial. Very cool concept. Terrible execution.

Overall, I like this app. Unfortunately, you can't skip chapters. While you give your preferences during set up,, it doesn't seem to matter. If you don't find certain things relaxing, you still have to play through them to unlock other sleepscapes. This is annoying for me, since I find cities stressful and not at all relaxing. I found myself experiencing disgust and anxious feelings during the Brooklyn sleepscape. It would be better if you could pick for yourself.

this app looks pretty and was recommended to me several times through other ads, so i thought i'd check it out. i can't speak for the audio as i keep my phone on mute, but the visuals are nice and pleasing to the eyes. seeing the works come alive as you color is delightful. that said, the rest of it is immediately cut off after the first escape. after that point access is hidden behind a subscription, and even with a "free trial" i cannot afford to be accidentally charged. i can't recommend this

This is one of the best apps I've ever seen. It works so perfectly to relax me and put me in the right mood for sleep. It's got beautiful artwork, amazing detail, relaxing music, adorable stories... the only thing I'd complain about or improve is that sometimes when turning and zooming you can't get the right angles to really look at something. This can feel awkward and frustrating. An example is the "it begins" fireside sleepscape... I can't look straight at the chair! Or zoom on the pics.
Kimberly Martin
Like almost every other comment here, I love it when it works, but the constant freezing and loss of progress is just too frustrating. It's happened 4 out of 6 episodes, and a couple of those did it twice. Update: the glitches seem to have been fixed and its been working smoothly for quite a few days straight. It's beautifully done and helps make me slow down before bed. This was a great find.
Tilley Nelson
Update: they have added the ability to change the volumes of the music, sound effects, and narration individually. Sound issue is solved. 😁 Great app but I only have so much space so I'm going to list my issues with it. 1.) I have an audio processing disorder and the music to spoken word ratio is off. 2.) It needs to time out. It stays on all night after I've fallen asleep and kills the battery
