Description of PTSD Coach

PTSD Coach was designed for Veterans and military Servicemembers who have, or may have, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). This app provides users with education about PTSD, information about professional care, a self-assessment for PTSD, opportunities to find support, and tools that can help users manage the stresses of daily life with PTSD. Tools range from relaxation skills and positive self-talk to anger management and other common self-help strategies. Users can customize tools based on their preferences and can integrate their own contacts, photos, and music. This app can be used by people who are in treatment as well as those who are not.

PTSD Coach was created by VA’s National Center for PTSD and DoD’s National Center for Telehealth & Technology.

This app is amazing! It has helped me through so much and had do many great categories to help you with your triggers and panic attacks. I would definitely recommend this app if you have PTSA, anxiety, and/or depression.

Great tools, could use preloaded music to add to the music list instead of trying to figure out how to get music on there for free. The app is fantastic!

This app is a lifesaver. It was very helpful to me after a period of great trauma. I often refer back to this site when facing recurring stress. It was developed by people who really do care.

Very good place to start but I feel it's lacking for people with severe PTSD/anxiety. There are some good exercises for calming and stress relief temporarily but I feel it needs several more layers for clinical coping mechanisms.

This is ALL FREE! And amazing! Many self help apps for meditation and mindfulness cost money for subscriptions. Although this may be tailored for veterans and others suffering from ptsd, there are great tools for anyone looking for mental health care benefits. Thank you to the developers and sponsors for the app!

I feel this app is saving my life. The quality of my life and my actual life. You have to actually do the activities. Read through all the choices and sections to see what is inside. You will start to think no about which ones to use when. Then plan times to use them. Use an alarm you can label if you need help getting into the habit.

This app helps those of us that experience dissociation and episodes from prior trauma. This app quickly brings you in and helps you feel calm. Be warned that it is easy to get crisis support; so be careful with what you click. Gratz to this app and community. Feel good and keep pushing beyond just another survivor; be another thriver.

Such a wonderful app. It's really helpful bc it teaches you to learn ways to deal with trauma that you can take with for the rest of your life. It helps you to learn what triggers you, how to cope with those triggers and how to maintain a baseline of well-being. Highly recommend.

The app has limited options, search help. It is from the VA which if I were there would prob.be more options. I was able to find more about treatment etc. but have never been able to find local service that offers it. In the south ones options are sadly very limited in funding, experience education & even empathy if on Medicare.

Found a pamphlet with this app on it as a PTSD resource at my VA behavioral health clinic nearly a year ago. Checking it out was the best decision (other than treatment) I've made. It provides the ability to schedule regular check-ins with tracking over time and various tools and learning resources for the individual, their family, and their support network. I'm grateful for this app everyday for helping manage my symptoms and maintain regular check ins between psych/therapy appointments.

This has been a great tool in conjunction with regular, professional help. I'm able to customize which calming tools I prefer, so they're easy to access in times of high stress and crisis. I've used this tool at home and when I'm out in public. It helps me keep it together so I can keep living my life. I also am able to help myself now when before I might just bottle it up and feel terrible for a long time.

The same day I installed this app,I used it as one of my things to be grateful for. It touches on the perfect issues, calm and easy to follow guidance to help you meander along the rough and sharp edges of your own mind. If you get a chance, download it. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, start slow. Try 2 minutes of work a day to practice for longer, deeper reaching exercises. I’ve spent my last 45 years writing off mindfulness as some humming that hippies do.....It will make you life better

Works pretty well so far. I have diagnosed PTSD from sexual and physical abuse. This app helped me get through an anxiety attack using the "clouds in the sky" positive imagery. Hopefully it will help me work through my other symptoms as well. I used the assessment to see how i'm doing with my recovery, and wasn't really surprised when the graph showed my PTSD assessment results to be high. I am hoping to use this app to recover or at least cope, especially with my anger.

This app is generally well done and is a great benefit to many Veterans suffering from PTST. The problem is PTSD is a very complex issue and there are no definitive answers or solutions to all situations. There are situations that have NEVER been addressed regarding PTSD for certain sufferers. In the past when counsellors were faced with senarios with which they were unfamiliar (ie. situations not covered in their "book learning"). Their responses were, at tmes, more harmful than helpful. We can do the exercises in an app and we can listen to feedback from counsellors but what can a Veteran do with feed back in which a counsellor states that something that a Veteran EXPERIENCED "just doesn't happen that way?" Thank you for reading my review.

I think the unhelpfulness of this app for me has less to do with the app itself and more to do with the problems around the term "PTSD". This app is specifically for combat veterans. The therapies, techniques and prompts relate to combat situations and a form of post traumatic stress which happens in discrete incidents and can be escaped from, such as ambushes, bombings, and firefights. People with civilian forms of PTSD such as CPTSD probably won't find it useful.

Wonderful resource that goes beyond specific trauma and assists with emotional regulation - the tools could be useful regardless of PTSD diagnosis. Definitely a great help for anxiety and panic. So appreciate having something like this when I get triggered and a professional mental health provider is unavailable.

While this app does not take the place of in-person counseling, it is a big help when you have thoughts and memories that you'd rather forget. I'm glad to have this platform, since we are basically confined to home because of the Pandemic. I have asked my Primary Care Provider to find a support group that I can join. I have Stage lll COPD and the depression that goes with it often leads to thoughts of Vietnam that I have spent years trying to forget. This app is much appreciated.

Many of the stress assessment tests do not allow you to continue. There must be a bug. After you select a few boxes nothing happens, there is no way to save, or continue to the end of the test. This happens on several of them. Cant tell if this app is worth anything because it wont let you do anything because of these bugs. As a medically discharged vet with PTSD I want to use this but as its developed now not really worth anything
