Just about every feature that made this a decent app two or three years ago when I first discovered it and began its usage is now hidden behind an annual subscription and the popups to upgrade to the paid version get annoying. It's no longer worth the space on my phone when I can get every single "pro"(i.e. paid $35.99 for now) option for free elsewhere, albeit with a touch more filtering/searching.

i have never paid for an app before All trails, I used the free version and enjoyed it so much I had to support it. being able to download the maps really helps track your progress on trails that cell service is poor to non-existence. I have found new trails in my area. I wish I could create my own routes before hitting the trail. I have had a few times it has paused without me knowing and did not count my total miles correctly. I wish there was a way to fill in those gaps after.

I've used a bunch of hiking apps over the years, and have grown to like AllTrails because it is feature friendly, intuitive, and just works. I like being able to easily switch from a desktop (for researching where to go) and the mobile phone. it seems like all the features I need are available in the app. I am happy to be able to take exports, so that I can use my geodata in other applications.

The offline maps are a great feature and I really want to give this app 5 stars, but there are glaring flaws that need to be fixed. I have found that this app undershoots how many miles and your pace a decent amount. And this is on all hikes I've been to whether in Alaska or California. And stop the auto-zooming on the maps!! It is super frustrating when growing the maps and it just auto zooms to a location. How do you mess up zooming on an app??

This app use to be very accurate in recording progress, now it just goes in straight line as you hike prerecorded trail. Not accurate in recording ground covered, miles. Also takes a few for it to pop up to show real time of where you are at, blue arrow. I assume if you upgrade, all this will fix itself. Did not pay before and all this was accurate, not anymore.

Thanks for the response, but still no cigar. While I can save the way you suggested. I have to zoom in to a very local area as opposed to simply saving the entire state. This is problematic since GPS in this app places me in the ocean hundreds of miles south of New Guinea. Considering I am in Colorado, this is a problem. I should be able to hit navigate and with the custom map start hiking. Unfortunately it doesn't work this way. Only the hikes you have on the site.

Initially I loved this app. Had a free account for years, recently decided to upgrade for download feature. Often hike outside cell range. However, wondering why so many trails are visible on the map but, lacking app markers or identification. I'd volunteer to hike & track additional trails. Wish I could reenter/continue a hike after restarting phone or app. Biggest annoyance, the review feature. FAR too easy to lose your work, auto save fails. Have to use a computer to avoid glitchy text box.

The paid version is good, but the free version is lackluster. For the discounted yearly fee, I can't complain. What I can complain about are the UI issues. Text boxes don't properly scale with Android of you're using non- default scaling options. The popup to undo or redo a trail bookmark is nice, but it shouldn't automatically close once you select a different favorites list. The community and saved maps are probably what makes this app better than the others.

Giving the free version 3 stars. Yes, it will help you find trails you never knew were there, and that's worth 3 stars, but you will be consistently blocked and hounded to upgrade, rendering the free version almost unusable. There is a 7-day trial, but I don't usually hike multiple trails in a week to really test it. Haven't decided if it's worth a year's subscription to me yet.

This app is so great! I've been using this app for the last few years, exploring the state I moved to. I was using this at a lake to find the little trails I was on. The parks maps were all either damaged or missing the smaller trails. I came across a few hikers that were a little lost, I showed them our position on the app, and they immediately downloaded the app as well. I only use the free version and usually screenshot the maps if I'm going somewhere with no signal, and that works well.

The ads to purchase premium are really annoying, and make the free version pretty much unusable. Can'tsearch for anythingoutsidemy immediate areas. It constantly interrupts you. Have been using AllTrails to find hikes for a few years now but I'm pretty sure I'll be uninstalling. This hasn't been my experience in the past, and I really am getting tired of this model of nickel and diming users as "subscribers". Paying for an app to simply be less obnoxious is not a good sell.

Had a subscription to this app that did not auto renew, and being winter, I didn't immediately notice it expired. Discovered that when I tried to use it again. I was never sent a notification of any kind to renew, and now that I have, all of my saved maps, trails, activity, etc. is gone. On a trip from STL to Tampa, found using the "directions" feature in the app would take me way out of the way to random locations. Never found the trail I was so far off course. The cost is too high for this.

This was downloaded and paid because they don't offer a free trial. Much of s trail is automated as you watch it. We checked out two trails and both had closures making it impassable and we had to turn around. Worst of all, trying to cancel the subscription is lost in a process that requires a higher level of tech skills and recall as to what platform you began your subscription and how it should work to cancel the subscription. At least they leave you with an email to request assistance...

It navigates something easily, even if you're using the freeware version, haven't paid for the premium (plan on it at some point but with a super busy schedule it's just hard to justify the payment). Pros: Easy to navigate, can see honest reviews about the trail, weather forecast for the area, basic outline of the map. Cons: kinda wish you could set a travel parameter that doesn't send you into Canada because I live next to the border but eh.

I don't understand all the rave reviews. Contains few trails nearby even though there are many. Most features require pay, even simple features like searching within a radius. And the app is cumbersome, with most of the features just as well suited to the website, which does not require installing an intrusive app that slows down your phone. But relying on their database, you'll wind up driving an hour to hike 30 minutes even if there's a trailhead right outside your front door. Ingenious.

This app is flawless, I started the free trial but I'm keeping the subscription. It's less than 40 USD a year. You can gain great insight on the trails from user reviews, and the phenomenal 3D satellite imagery map. Planning a hiking/camping/backpacking trip is 20x easier with having knowledge of the specific trails you're interested in, and this app does the job.

I installed it and then opened it. I was met with the message that I could have a 7 day trial followed by a $35.00 per year charge. If you accepted the trial, it would read your Google pay account and if you miss canceling your card would be charged. I would not even have finished studying what's around to hike on during that seven days. It mentions what little you can do for free but it doesn't tell you how to stay free after trial is over. I uninstalled it quickly before it started a trial.

I don't hike that much anymore unfortunately, but I was just reminded about the one time my kids and I got re-routed on a 5 mile hike and ran into a completely flooded, underwater trail. Without AllTrails, getting back would've been impossible/dangerous. But thanks to the offline maps, I was able to go off-trail with my phone, even without service, and get my wife, kids, and I out safely. Don't leave home without it, especially if you're an amateur! The Pro version is also very affordable.
