Description of Imaging Edge Mobile

Imaging Edge Mobile allows images/videos to be transferred to a smartphone/tablet, enables remote shooting, and provides location information to images captured by a camera.

■ Transfer images from a camera to a smartphone
- You can transfer images/videos.
- The selection and transfer of images after shooting are no longer needed as the automatic background transfer function allows images to be transferred to a smartphone as they are captured. *1
- High bit rate video files including 4K can be transferred. *2
- You can view and transfer images in your camera from your smartphone even when the camera is turned off. *2
- After transferring, you can immediately share your high quality images on social networks or through email.

■ Remote shooting of a camera using a smartphone
- You can capture photos/videos remotely while checking the live view of a camera on a smartphone. *3
This is convenient for capturing night views or water flowing scenes which need long-exposure, or macro shooting in which you need to avoid to directly touch the camera.
*3 Models that support PlayMemories Camera Apps can use this feature by installing "Smart Remote Control" (in-camera app) on your camera in advance.

■ Record location information
- With cameras that have a location information linkage function, the location information acquired by the smartphone can be added to the captured image in your camera.

- Even with cameras that do not have a location information linkage function, it is possible to add location information acquired by your smartphone to the photos saved on your smartphone during remote shooting.

■Save and Apply Settings
- You can save up to 20 camera settings in Imaging Edge Mobile.
You can also apply a saved setting to a camera. *4

0 star!!! App does not work. This app is a pain in the butt. It is not working properly. I used to able to transfer photo from camera to smart phone but that feature is not working anymore. I tried an hour including deleting and reinstalling the app and disconnecting and reconnecting the wifi etc but still not working. Seems like I am not the only one with this problem. Very frustrated now.

Do not install the December updates! Ever since the new December versions were installed, I need to accept the terms and condition every time I start the app. More troublesome is that the location feature does not connect to the camera unless I open the app and restart the bluetooth. The older versions automatically connected to the camera and offered the option to use permissions all the time. Not anymore. These new features essentially make the location function of limited use.

Can't remote with phone does not connect except to download images. I can't see what the camera sees anymore, and can't push the button. The new application made it stop showing what the camera saw. The remote function does not work at all. I have spent many hours on this and only have frustration. Sony did not provide the functions that we thought we were buying with the camera. I will have to buy a separate monitor, a cable to connect to it, a battery power supply for the monitor and an remote switch to allow me to remotely view and shoot rather than use my phone.

This app was bad before, but now it's even worse! Extremely slow and tedious process for transferring images from camera to phone via Wi-Fi. If it even connects... Only works about 1% of the time .. If you're lucky. Unable to connect phone to camera to use as a remote through app. Confusing UI. Sony needs to spend some resources on developing this app because it's horrible!!!

Horrible app, super buggy. Connection to camera always fails or disconnects randomly for no reason. Does not support touch screen auto focus. Not user friendly at all, its hard to navigate and understand where things are or how to establish a connection. Does not transmit raw files... there is still so much wrong with this app, and this is the 2nd iteration.

Useless. It used to work like two years or so ago. Now, it's only good for personal information stealing and that's about it. Everything needs to be turned on for it to supposedly work; Bluetooth, nfc, wifi, location, ect. I, for the life of me, cannot understand why I need every single radio on the phone to be turned on when it used to work off of wifi only.

Works occasionally. As stated by Sony AVCHD files will not transfer. When choosing files to transfer to Smartphone from RX100, the camera locks up when an AVCHD file is displayed. I have to remove the card and restart camera to try again. Also, seamless transfer sometimes. But, about 40% of the time it takes repeated attempts to transfer. A real time waster. Been using this app for 2 years. Not operator error.

This is a truly awful app. I spent hours trying to enable remote shooting, and all I succeeded in doing was transferring a single image at a time. I was able to enable remote shooting in the version from a couple of years ago. The app help and online help are equally confusing. Almost makes me wish that I hadn't bought the Sony camera.

Awful. Got three wonderful bodies, but this thing is amateurish at best. Can't connect via BlueTooth for GPS until you connect to Wifi with at least one camera. Bluetooth doesn't continue to connect (though it says it does). Can't connect two bodies at once via BlueTooth (why not? Nothing in the standard prevents it, and I shoot with a second body). Crashes frequently doing wifi transfers. Can't preserve both a access point and direct profile at the same time (why can't I use one at home and one on the road?). Performance of everything wifi is awful, not just file transfer. And why do I HAVE to transfer files via Wifi, maybe I just wanted a remote control? Bought the (sony) Blue Tooth remote and using that instead of most things. Seriously Sony - the A9ii and A7Riv are terrific, can't you do better for an app? Update: The inability to maintain and restore a connection appears to be a regression. I went back to version 7.2.1 (July) and it is much better, 7.3.x is bad.

Intuitive is not the apps strongest point, but it does work. My main point of confusion is why, when it is nearly 2020, we can't transfer raw files wirelessly. You could transfer raw with the old app and firmware, WiFi is plenty fast, even Bluetooth is fast enough to grab a couple files to throw into the Lightroom app, edit and share. Why do we need to use a cable, OTG adapter, and a third party file browser to transfer raw files? Sony?

I've always had a great experience and have been able to connect fine until I got Samsung 10+. It doesn't appear this app supports the 10+ device??? (at least I can't find any support or help to make it work) I'm super bummed, I downloaded photos from my camera to my phone via the wireless connection regularly. Now the app is worthless to me. :(

I don't need this for remote work, and I don't expect it to transfer files quickly to my phone (these photo and video files are enormous anyway). I use it to get geolocation information and it works fairly reliably for that. Sometimes it takes quite a while to get the information from the phone (even when I know the phone's got a GPS fix b/c I check my position in a maps app) and sometimes I need to re-pair, but it works OK for that.

When I first installed this app for my Sony a7III in the late summer of 2019, it worked well enough on my Android phone. Sure I couldn't transfer in the background, but it connected well and good enough. Now after several 'updates' it barely works. I have to try several times to connect and it doesn't do it automatically anymore, usually I just give up all together. It's become fairly useless. Giving 2 stars because when it finally connects I can sometimes use it...

TL'DR: Absolutely terrible app. I used to able to connect my phone to my Sony A7iii camera and take photos before, but now I cannot even do that. I get a weird error all the time. Even back then when it worked, you couldn't do much. All you could do was to see yourself in camera, which was useful for taking selfies. However, you still couldn't change the focus from app. Sony's menu system isn't that great. I wish you could change the camera settings using this app, because it is a lot simpler on a phone. However, this app fails to provide that, even when it works. I think having a great app can be game changing in this day and age. I hope Sony comes up with an App similar to what DJI and other companies provide with their hardware.

Older version worked better! I don't know what they did with the new update but it works horrendously! I have to enter in my Camera's wifi every time I want to transfer photos to my phone. Before, it would just connect automatically. Also, I can't even transfer photos without getting a "something came up" error message. So disappointed with this new update and hope it gets fixed!

This app needs a lot of work. It will not stay connected while shooting. I would love to shoot and save to PC or phone while shooting. This is available on Canon just not Sony. Apps are thought of last should be apart of development. The other piece I have is not allowing me to select a focus point from my phone and the lag is terrible where it's connected via WiFi should be a lot better. Please fix I'd be willing to even pay for these features. Stability, wifi speed, shoot and save while shooting, and focus selection options. Or even full selection as the camera has. Port the API.

Remote shooting is useless. The basic option of being able to control the focusing point is not there! This app is useless for me. It's just good for transferring photos over. My Canon 6D from 2012 had better functionality with remote shooting. Sony can't be this dumb but its been this way for over 3 years, so they are. Will be switching back to Canon soon. They aren't taking these issues seriously.

Ridiculous that you are required to turn on your GPS to simply run the app! If you run the app, it tells you to turn on your GPS. Click OK without turning it on, then it exits the app. Useless. Maybe I want to take pictures without Geo tagging them. Useless. The claims turning on the GPS is necessary when connecting with wifi or Bluetooth, which simply isn't true. I have a different app that doesn't require this. The old app was far better and less restrictive. Extremely disappointed in Sony.
