Description of Canon Camera Connect

Canon Camera Connect is an application to transfer images shot with compatible Canon cameras to smartphone/tablet.

By connecting to a camera with Wi-Fi (direct connection or via wireless router), this application provides the following features:
・Transfer and save camera images to a smartphone.
・Remote shoot with live view imaging of the camera from a smartphone.
・Connect with Canon's various services.

This application also provides the following features for compatible cameras.
・Acquire location information from a smartphone and add it to the images on the camera.
・Switch to a Wi-Fi connection from pairing status with a Bluetooth enabled camera (or from touch operation with an NFC enabled camera)
・Remote release of the camera shutter with a Bluetooth connection.
・Transfer the latest firmware.

-Bluetooth System Requirement
For Bluetooth connection, the camera needs to have a Bluetooth function, and your Android device needs to have Bluetooth 4.0 or later (supports Bluetooth Low energy technology) and the OS needs to be Android 5.0 or later.

-Supported Languages
Japanese/English/French/Italian/German/Spanish/Simplified Chinese/Russian/Korean/Turkish

-Compatible File Types
JPEG、MP4、MOV
・Importing original RAW files is not supported (RAW files are resized to JPEG).
・MOV files and 8K movie files shot with EOS cameras cannot be saved.
・HEIF (10 bit) and RAW movie files shot with compatible cameras cannot be saved.
・AVCHD files shot with Camcorder cannot be saved.

-Important Notes
・If application does not operate properly, try again after shutting down the application.
・This application is not guaranteed to operate on all Android devices.
・In the case of using Power Zoom Adapter, please set the Live View function to ON.
・If the OS network confirmation dialogue appears when connecting the device to the camera, please place a checkmark in the checkbox to make the same connection from the next time.
・The images may include your personal information such as GPS data. Be careful when posting images online where many others can view them.

Frustrating beyond description. Sometimes it connects to my R5, sometimes not. It is completely random. Luck or devine intervention is needed for successful connection. Auto Transfer is a neat feature. But if you put your phone in your pocket and assume the photo transfers will automatically continue, be prepared for more frustrating disappointment.

It was working, now isnt. I was able to connect and transfer photos 2 weeks ago now it will never connect my camera. The easy set up guide was horrible and didnt help at all. It just told me to use my manual which only teaches you how to transfer photos once it is set up, not how to set it up. Please fix this issue so we can all use one of the great benefits this camera is supposed to have.

Easy to connect, cool functionality! I use this to grab files off my camera for social media. Photo browser is fast and responsive. It's almost comparable to simply looking through photos on my phone, but a teeny pinch slower which is fine and expected as the camera technically serving over a remote connection. I read some reviews with people having difficulties, but I haven't had any. Maybe reliability and performance varies by hardware. I'm using a Note8 paired with Canon EOS M200.

I have a love-hate relationship with this app. I use the Moto Z Play with my Canon 80D. Some days the WiFi will pick up my camera quickly, other times it can take up to 20 minutes just to connect. Usually I have to reconfirm the set on the 80D for the phone to find it over WiFi. The only other thing I wish it had, would be longer range. The live view is so slow even just 5 feet away from the camera. Still a super useful tool though!

Works for one second or so then will fail to find camera. Usually at the most important times, meaning right when you go to snap a photo. Don't waste your time with app. Just spend 10-20 bucks and use the cable remote feature. Or one of the wireless blue tooth remotes that are out there. If you need to use your phone as a monitor just use an inexpensive lap top instead. Until they update this app don't waste your time.

Note to self: App will not connect to wifi when vpn is on. Original review: When this app works it's amazing. 80% of the time I have to spend 15 minutes trying to figure out why it won't connect. Deleting app, data, connections sometimes works. It's such a disappointment. I have 3 recent Canon cameras and my experience has been the same with various versions of camera connect. It's a real bummer.

Worked okay before, but now it crashes every time I try to use Bluetooth connection. I used it with my last phone running Android 9 and had no issues. My new phone runs Android 10 and I can't get it to work. Every time I attempt a Bluetooth connection with my EOS R, the app crashes. I eventually got it to work with just a WiFi connection, but its much more tedious to do it that way. The Bluetooth connection should work, but doesn't.

No offense, but I shouldn't have to fight to connect to my camera... EVERY SINGLE TIME!! It is literally in the name... "connect", so I should be able to connect. If this wasn't the only app out there I would suggest you find one that was built by people who knew what they were doing. Because this app really doesn't work. Takes me fifteen minutes, uninstalling the app, restarting my phone and fingers crossing and then it only works a quarter of the time. No wonder it is free.

Previously this app would have received 5 star. I am stuck with it though until I upgrade to another camera. I think the recent update had a negative effect on the integrity of Canon Connect. So disappointed it does not communicate with my other devices as it once did. Frustrating to continually attempt to no avail to transfer photos. HATE THIS. And I have used it for several years without any problems prior to now.

Doesn't stay connected to your phone after you've used it once. You have to setup the wifi and password EVERY SINGLE TIME you want to transfer pictures to your phone. If you connect after you setup the wifi a second time, you get "Incorrect wireless LAN encryption key" or something likewise. Total pain to set up every time. Has been a problem for a long time.

This has a lot of potential. Major drawbacks for me: 1) inability to filter/sort images by rating. I shoot sports and rate as I'm shooting. But those ratings don't show up and can't be acted on in the app. I spent ten minutes finding "that shot" on the sidelines instead of shooting more. 2) I need the option to send files I choose from the camera like you can with FTP. No one needs to send every file to their computer or web site, but we should be able to select and send them like with FTP

Works but transfering photos is limited in resolution. It's annoying not to be able to transfer the full photo instead of a downsized photo. I like to be able to save my photos directly to my phone for quick sharing or editing without having to go home and use the computer. Using a computer is more of a hassle than this app, which is super easy to use. So pleasw fix the resolution lock and let us send the full files over to our phones please!

Not sure what the other reviewers problems were. But my experience was a simple and quick setup. It works just fine. Quite a bit laggy in live view feed to my smartphone but it's not a deal breaker. I have the Canon 6d, so I don't expect a budget older camera to be perfect in this regard. It does what I need it to do. And it works well to help do self portraits. 5 stars.

Frustrating! A struggle to get it connected and to keep it connected. Tried wifi and bluetooth. The only feature in the app that wasnt grayed out was the record button. Even the the option to send images was grayed out. Upon first use, the button would not do anything. I don't know if I'm supposed to be able to playback on phone or not. When I try to scan for bluetooth, the window just disappears. Nothing works on this app!!!!

I have been using this app pretty much daily for months, and prior to a recent update I'd have given the app 5 stars. Before, you could transfer the original .CR2 file via the app, but now it converts to JPG and I absolutely hate that! I feel like we should be given the option to choose the file size when we begin a transfer. I don't care it the raw files take up more space nor if it takes longer to transfer and uses more battery life. This update has completely changed my workflow. Please fix.

Definitely wish NFC was still an option. It made connecting my phone to camera so quick! I had to spend some time redoing the wifi connection between my phone and camera just now, which wasn't ideal but at least it does the job. User interface is a little aged, but it does what I need it to do, nothing crazy extra. Don't have experience with other camera connection apps so can't compare.

This software would be a lot better if it didn't constantly crash and refuse to properly connect to my camera. When it's not crashing, the app works great! Fairly useful when I'm trying to share photos with family or friends. But as mentioned, some days the app just won't cooperate and constantly crashes. ):

Not sure what you did, but the app doesn't work anymore. I have not been able to connect my cameras in about a month. I've reinstalled it multiple times and reset up all connections over and over again. It finds my cameras but fails to connect by wifi or bluetooth anymore. This used to be my most frequently used app. I used to be able to turn on my cameras and automatically connect. It has become a terrible headache.
