The best way to learn a language is through properly-leveled exposure and there are few ways to get it better than with Beelingual. It's easy to build vocab, grammar, and listening skills while enjoying a story in a non-threatening environment. Although eventually you'll need to take leaps to communicate in your target language in daily life, this is undoubtedly a great way to prepare yourself for that point.

Still Learning. The app is not as intuitive as the developer may think. I can't select a word for translation or put it in a flashcard, and there are no instructions how to do it. As a true beginner, I don't have the vocabulary or understanding of grammar to make sense of the translation. The developer should either make the app more user friendly.

Not very useful for Japanese. The "karaoke" highlighting of words doesn't work with Japanese, since the sentence structure is essentially backwards. It would be much better if the matching words were hilighted at the same time. The pronunciation of some Kanji are weird scratchy audio when selected individually, and you cannot highlight from the line above to the line below if a word continues to the following line. This app may be better in the future, but not yet.

It's real nice, when it works My first impressions of this app were pretty good, I especially loved that there was music translations avalible to read and listen. After starting the free trial, closing the app and coming back later, it constantly froze right on opening it. Once I was finally able to acess the app without freezing, I kept being prompted to "get premium" and being locked out of certain things despite having already started a subscription. Very finicky, this thing.

I bought premium because I liked the concept but none of the premium features were really worth it. I tried to download stories to read offline and none of them worked. Also I found the translate and select text modes inconvenient. The concept is great and maybe it works for other languages. I wish I could get the money back but ill keep using the free version

purchased premium, very quickly remembered what annoyed me before. (Edit filter problem fixed! Thanks) they have arbitrary ways to string together stories where you have to read one before you unlock the next one, but no apparent learning progression, just inept gamification of a category. Please just let me turn off all gamification. The built in quizzes are pretty basic and unnecessary. Better to let us save the vocabulary we want and review those cards

The free version is great for being free. The paid subscription is not worth it, in my opinion. I got it for the flashcard functionality but the flashcards are not randomized and do not save where you last left off. It also does not have spaced repetition. The flashcards don't work (no translation) unless I manually translate each word in the glossary first. Finally the multiple language function does not allow you to save different language words under a separate glossary or set of flashcards.

Super useful to augment grammar and vocabulary study. Beelinguapp contains text of varying difficulty levels on topics ranging from fairy tales to current events to interesting non-fiction topics. I'm using it for Russian study as a native English speaker. Much of the text has accompanying audio which is great for getting the pronunciation correct. The mistakes I've noticed are rare and overall this is an excellent app so far. Cheers!

It does seem like a stable app, but the audio is horrible, too fast, and scratchy (at least the German) ..also the translation calls upon Google translate to translate each word, which I could tell from the start is not exactly the best for this seeing it translates words oddly forbthe story ..it does have its own side by side translation, but the words dont match up perfectly ..it is a translation, but not a very good one. The content on the app needs a lot more work.

The idea is great, execution is less than acceptable. It says click a word to add to your flashcards but it doesn't add. The mic feature doesn't work. There are no instructions other than what appears on the screen periodically and those disappear too fast to read. Then when you try to use the feature, it doesn't work. I have a 7 day trial so I'll give it another day or two, but so far it's just been frustrating.

I've had this app for 30 minutes and very much regret falling for the pressure to subscribe right away. I've had issue after issue - first story got to the end but every time I tried to exit it warned me I hadn't completed it. The first song I tried somehow had English text on both the top and bottom of my screen and was sung in English but I'm trying to practice my Spanish. Next story the highlighted text was a sentence ahead of the reader. I canceled my subscription and also want a refund!

The app has a lot of potential and is decent. I love the concept of stories and the artwork. Also, the articles cover a great range of topics. But please do whatever you must to have everything (or most content) in native audio. This day and age, we need NATIVE AUDIO. Too many apps use TTS and are thus sub-par for learning. It is literally what separates an amazing app (like speakly) from an okay app.

Nice idea, its nice to be able to go back and forth between languages. Problems i had were: unintuitive app navigation, lack of stories, lack of relevant and recent news articles, lack of content, some bugs as certain articles wouldnt load, text alignment issues, audio, once played, cannot be stopped. Good idea, lacks execution and substance.

2nd update: Uninstalled. Used to be five stars, now one. Stories are locked, even if you are a premium member. It seems you're being forced to read certain stories in a specific order to unlock the next one. Makes sense if you're using the free version, but not if you pay for premium. Having the ability to read what you want, whenever, and however you want is what made this service so great. People learn differently and are interested in different topics.

The UI is indeed buggy as the other comments said. But what's really annoying is everytime I look up a word and press the back button to go back to the story, it will go back to the main menu. Pretty counterintuitive if you're eager to learn. I had high hopes when I signed up - save your money and just read subtitles in your target language.

I can't get into the app. It opens to a page asking is this the first time you've used this app with yes/no buttons. Clicking on either will advance to 2nd screen covered by full page ad offering discount on first year of premium version for 30 minutes. That's as far as I got. No x button to close, no setting/menu, buttons, nothing. Closed out of app & reopened again but its still frozen on that screen. I'm now going to uninstall from my device's settings. No rating on its intended functions as I never got past their sales pitch page. 0 stars.

Why is this app so cumbersome to use? The concept is great but basic features are missing. If I enter Translate mode I can't return to "read" mode without closing the story I was reading. Also, if I close the app, it doesn't remember where I was in the story. I also can't select any word that is on more than 1 line. I'm using a galaxy s10+. Instead of putting in features like Night Mode that no one cares about, focus on basic functionality.

This is a very usefull app for beginners and intermediates to read texts in thier target language. I especially like that the text can be read to you. It helps me figure out how to pronounce new words. I have also been loving the newest feature, where you can read the lastest news stories in your target language. If you are a beginner or intermediate in a new language, and you need some more practice material, I absolutely recommend!
