As soon as has developed over the years, and I've been a dealer for them off and on since the beginning, I found the app to grow more and more frustrating and difficult to use. The most current version is the clumsiest of all. For many of us we don't like messing around with our phones, doing an unnecessary amount of button presses and swipes, and struggling with an app to get a simple process completed.

an app that must have been created by people who don't listen to music. app opens to a menu screen instead of showing the art for the song playing. if you have multiple groupings, it can't remember where you are in the mix when you switch between groups. latest desktop update killed basic functionality for the desktop - just says to download mobile app. forced updates. I DON'T WANT YOUR UPDATES. seems to assume all music is streamed. this app has made me reconsider going back to speaker wire.

This could be a great system I own 5, every update causes more trouble. I want these to just play music and I dont want to have to constantly learn new things and monitor software changes. These units constantly default to a sonos chime that is extremely annoying. I have to set alarms every hour to keep them playing. They are determined to find a reason not to play any music and go back to the chime. Now my alarms are gone and I cant see them anymore. How about defaulting to play music instead.

Some features are nice, but not all are intuitive. The speaker sound is great and the interface with Alexa is nice as well. Wish it operated more like a bluetooth speaker where I could send any sound that I'm listening to through the speaker, such as YouTube, Amazon music, etc. Then I could control sound right from the main screen of my phone and not through app. It has the ability to link to the external sources, but I like the interface with some of those apps better. Overall, great speaker!

I love the system, sound quality and ability to use throughout the house. I have 3 1's, a 5 and a soundbar. the low rating is solely for the app issues on android. updates are constant and a pain, why oh why can't they be performed when all the speakers are visible? limited or no functionality until they are done but they can't be completed for whatever reason, so frustrating and embarrassing when friends are over. I tried to set to auto update, like what is advised and even that won't work.

Sonos products are awesome but their app couldn't possibly be worse. Constant crashes, loses contact with individual speakers on a regular basis, often unable perform the most basic functions. Someone please do something to improve your app experience. We all paid a ton of cash for your products but now that you've removed the ability to do several functions from the PC app we have no choice but to use the mobile app. Needs serious work.

Awful, but slowly getting better. I think for a long time, this app was primarily geared toward Spotify users. All other music took great effort to play (e.g. digging through a multi-level menu to find Amazon music). The new "recently played previews" are very nice, and make the app usable. It is still not possible to "send" an MP3 that someone sends you to the Sonos app without (1) moving heaven and hell, (2) uploading the music to some cloud music provider, (3) pulling the music back down.

If you like having to update the app every few weeks. If you like having to install new firmware on the speakers every month. If you like the music suddenly not working, and having to restart your modem, your router, your speakers and your phone to get it working again. If you like having the link between spotify and sonos break down AGAIN and have to delete both apps and reinstall them and reconnect them at least once a month. If you like having an app that WILL NOT SHUTDOWN no matter what you do, turn your phone off or throw the thing in the river - that stupid icon top left of screen wont go away. If you like using a buggy counterintuitive UX to try to find your music. If you like having to watch tv with subtitles because the mid-range is so muffled. If you like underwhelming tinny sound. If you like all these things then by all means get Sonos. Personally for me, after 3 years with this awful thing I'm going back to a wired system.

I have had this system in three rooms of our house for three plus years and am satisfied with the sound but the app is very unstable and unreliable. They send out updates monthly and I lose speakers from at least one room every time. It is a big pain in the ass to get them back on, especially the ones on the porch which are 10 feet off the floor. The "find missing product" button is useless. I have to set them up as new each time.

It was easy enough to set up my speaker (the one from Ikea), but controlling it has been up and down. I'll try to use Spotify within the Sonos app, and I can't access many options for things to play. So, I'll usually just try to connect to my speaker from the Spotify app. Problems listening to Audible books within the Sonos app: I can't make bookmarks, it rarely syncs my progress, I can't adjust the speed. So, I mostly prefer when other apps let me directly connect.

Great sound, great idea, great quality. I dropped a Play 3 into the bay off of my pier where it floated for three to five minutes before I could fish it out. It still works!!! The downside? If you have any level of complexity to your wifi network, such as multiple APs or multiple vlans (I have both), the Controller will not be able to find all your speakers, and this is extremely frustrating. A troubleshooting module in the controller for advanced users would solve this. Overall great though.

This app is not very user friendly. Im pretty tech savy but I don't this app at all. I do not like the fact that I have to go to the sonos app then go to the Spotify app to change the volume. The sub is very loud and we are constantly changing the settings. There are so many steps you have to go through just to change settings and it's annoying. If we would have known the app sucked this bad we would have went with the Bose sound system. Fix your app!!

Worst experience with hardware and software in years. Thank goodness this was a gift. Setup is the absolute worst and the instructions are that of ikea, in that there are no instructions. If you are able to connect the next challenge is getting your music to play and to get the right app. I never wanted this. Why cannot just use the speaker like bluetooth speaker? If you get the speaker to work it sounds okay, but not worth the hassel. Oh and the app itself is hot trash. It is if some one wanted a "smart" speaker, but did it all the wrong way. I do not recommend this app or the speaker, but if you got this far like it good luck with your setup

Update. A year in and sonos requires an update. When I try to update it spins a while and says can't update. I'm paying a premium price for ease of use. For this much money I shouldn't have to put up with lazy programming and shoddy testing. Easy to use. Speakers easy to set up. The app is perfect. The Sonos system overall is certainly overpriced, but you can't beat it for ease of use. Guess it's worth it to me.

I do not find the menus intuitive. Going back I often close out of Sonos. The system is awesome, I just have s mental block on how to create a playlist, whether the playlist is on the phone or needs internet connectivity, how to bring up the same playlist at two different locations. I know this app can do these things, but i find it unnecessarily complicated and there is no way I could tell someone how to use this. Perhaps it is time for a UI rewrite or adding some wizards. thank you

Great speakers, AWFUL ecosystem. This app is just a disaster. It's buggy, it's extremely clunky, and it randomly and very suddenly decides it's not going to play music. Like, at all. It's the only way for me to use my Sonos speakers, and at times it totally locks me out. Again, the speakers are great, but if I'd known the app and it's support were so awful I NEVER would have bought into sonos.

Connections get worse with every update. If you like to hear your music bounce all over the house with no ability to pause or skip songs or want songs to skip automatically, Sonos is for you. If you'd like all of your speakers to work together as advertised, go with literally anything else. I was going to be adding additional speakers, now I need to get rid of these and get something different.

This is the worst app I have to use on a daily basis. I use the Sonos speaker system in a restaurant. sometime I need to skip a song, turn the music off or adjust the volume. this app is the only reasonable way to do that with where the speakers are located. unfortunately the app hangs and disconnects constantly. This was never a problem until an update a few months ago. I have to turn wifi off and let the Sonos app turn it back on to reconnect. I will never purchase Sonos equipment again.
